TRASH DESIGN LINGERIE : by ever DESIGN

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli suunnitella ja valmistaa asusasumallisto poistotekstiileistä ever DESIGN tuotemerkille. Inspiraation lähteenä toimi punk ja burlesque, joista kiinnostuneet ihmiset ovat myös alusasumalliston kohderyhmää. Mallistoon kuuluu kuusi alusasukokonaisuutta, kaksi aamutakkia ja kuusi alusasujen säilytyspussukkaa. Alusasut ovat näytös- ja esiintymisvaatteita, joilla on on tarkoitus brändätä ever DESIGN tuotemerkkiä. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli kokeilla, miten poistotekstiili soveltuu sellaisenaan uusien tuotteiden materiaaleiksi, naisten asusasumallistossa. Mallistoon materiaaleina oli myös muita poistomateriaaleja, kuten helmiä, vöitä ja vetoketjuja. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli olla vastalause kertakäyttökulttuurille ja antaa keskustelun aihetta kästävyysmuotoilun saralla. Tavoitteena oli myös kehittää ja syventää tekijän ammatillista osaamista alusvaatteiden saralla. Malliston materiaalit saatiin lahjoituksena Lounais-Suomen jätehuollolta, TST-Texvexin tekstiilikierrätyksestä, joka on osa turkulaista Telaketju-hanketta sekä muilta pienemmiltä toimijoilta. Tekijä tutustui TST-Texvex:n toimintaan ja haastatteli, mistä Telaketju-hankkeessa on kyse ja miten tekstiilejä lajitellaan. Telaketju-hanke järjesti alkuvuodesta 2017 Ompelujamit-nimisen tapahtuman, jossa tekijä oli mukana ohjaamassa ja opettamassa ihmisiä korjaamaan ja tuunaamaan omia vanhoja vaatteitaan ja asusteitaan. Tapahtuman tarkoituksena oli pidentää tekstiilin elämää ja vähentää jätteen määrää. Opinnäytetyön tutkimusmenetelmänä oli konstruktiivinen muotoiluntutkimus ja työssä perehdytään myös kestävyysmuotoilun eri kirjoihin ja artikkeleihin. Opinnäytetyö on raportoitu videoblogina, kahdeksassa eri jaksossa, joissa kerrotaan ja kuvataan koko opinnäytetyön prosessi, taustatutkimuksesta skisseihin, suunnittelusta valmistamiseen sekä valmiiden tuotteiden kuvaamiseen. Mallisto osallistui myös Vaatevallankumous-kampanjaan, jonka tarkoituksena oli saada ihmisten tietoisuuteen, missä ja miten vaatteet valmistetaan. Videoblogin viimeisessä jaksossa pohditaan, miten videoblogi soveltuu luovan opinnäytetyön raportointimenetelmäksi, kerrotaan aikatauluista, materiaalimenekistä, alusasujen vastaanotosta sekä arvoidaan työn onnistumista.

The purpose of the thesis was to design and manufacture a collection of post-consumer waste for the ever DE- SIGN brand. The source of inspiration of the lingerie collection was punk and burlesque, whose followers are also the target group of the same. The collection features six underwear sets, two robes, and six lingerie pouches. The underwear is show and performance clothing designed to brand the ever DESIGN brand. The purpose of the thesis was to find out how the post-consumer waste is suited to material of new products, in this case to a women's lingerie collection. The collection materials included other post-consumer waste such as pearls, belts and zippers, too. The purpose of the thesis was to protest against the use of a non-use culture and to launch a debate about the topic of sustainable design. The aim was also to develop and deepen the author's professional skills in the field of lingerie. The materials in the collection were received as a donation from the South East Finland's waste management, TST-Texvex textile recycling, which is part of the Telaketju-project, and from other smaller operators. The author acquainted with the operations of TST-Texvex and conducted an interview to find out what the Telaketju project is about and how the textiles are sorted. At the beginning of the year of 2017 the Telaketju project organized an event called Sewing Jam - Ompelujamit, where the author was involved in guiding and teaching people to repair their own old clothes and accessories. The purpose of the event was to lengthen the life of textiles and reduce the amount of waste. The research method of this Master's Thesis was a constructive design study where literature of sustainability design was utilized in the background study. The thesis was also reported as a videoblog, in eight different sec- tions, describing and filming the whole process of the thesis, from the background research to the sketches, from design to production, and to the photographs of the finished products. The collection also participated in the Fashion Revolution campaign aimed at getting people aware of where and how clothes are made. In the last section of the videoblog, the author discusses how the videoblog can be used as a creative Master's reporting method, multiplying the timetables, the material resources, feedback, and evaluating the success of the work.
