PILVIPALVELUT : Pilvipalvelujen hyödyntäminen ICTLAB-oppimisympäristössä

Abstract

Tietotekniikka alana on todella nopeasti kehittyvää, siksi oppimisympäristöjenkin pitäi-si pysyä samassa vauhdissa. Opinnäytetyössä oli tarkoitus etsiä tietoa pilvipalveluista sekä pilvilaskennasta ja tiivistää se tietopaketiksi. Työn toisena tavoitteena oli kartoit-taa ja vertailla pilvipalvelujen soveltuvuutta ICTLAB-oppimisympäristöön.

Teoriaosassa käytiin läpi pilvipalveluiden historiaa ja pilvipalveluille keskeistä aihetta virtualisointia. Näiden lisäksi tutustuttiin pilvipalveluiden kerroksiin, mikä sisälsi myös pilven tietoturvaa.

Tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin pilvipalveluntarjoajia ja karsittiin näistä työhön soveltuvat vaihtoehdot. Työkaluja vertailtiin konfiguroimalla kyseiseen palveluun tietokanta. Tä-män jälkeen tutkittiin, miten palvelu soveltuisi ICTLAB-oppimisympäristöön.

Lyhyen kartoittamisen jälkeen muutamasta pilvipalveluntarjoajasta jäi jäljelle kaksi tes-taamiseen soveltuvaa palveluntarjoajaa. Vertailussa olisi tietokantojen laajempi osaa-minen auttanut tuomaan lisää materiaalia, vaikka tälläkin määrällä alkuun päästiin. Vaikka ICTLAB onkin tuottanut omia pilvipalveluita, palveluntarjoajat tuovat valmiin vaihtoehdon kiireellisiin projekteihin ICTLAB-oppimisympäristössä.

Computing as a line of business is a fast-developing area, which is one reason why learn-ing environments should keep up with its pace. The purpose of this thesis was to gather information about cloud computing and cloud services to compile a compressed infor-mation package. The second goal was to survey and compare cloud services for ICTLAB-learning environ-ment.

In the theory section, the history of cloud services and virtualization were discussed, as it is very crucial for the subject. Additionally, layers of cloud services were closely investigat-ed, which also contained security of a cloud.

In this study, the cloud service providers were mapped and the most suitable ones for this work were selected. The tools were tested by comparing database creation and configura-tion. After this, suitability of the service to the ICTLAB-learning environment was exam-ined.

After a short mapping among a few cloud service providers, only two suitable ones were left for testing. In the comparison, a more advanced knowledge from databases, would have brought more material, although even with this level, it got started. Although ICTLAB has produced its own cloud services, service providers bring a complete alternative for the most urgent projects.
