Osallisuus laitossijoituksessa : Laitoksiin sijoitettujen nuorten kokemus sijoituspaikastaan ja sosiaalityöntekijästään

Abstract

Opinnäyteyössä selvitettiin yli 12-vuotiaiden laitokseen sijoitettujen nuorten kokemuksia sijaishuoltopaikastaan ja osallisuuden toteutumista. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli nostaa esiin nuorten omia kokemuksia ja antaa heille mahdollisuus anonyymiin palautteeseen.

Tutkimus toteutettiin määrällisenä survey-kyselynä, johon vastaaminen tapahtui internetissä. Kysely välitettiin 76 nuorelle ja vastauksia saatiin 12 kappaletta. Aineisto kerättiin toukokuussa 2017 ja analysoitiin kesän 2017 aikana.

Tutkimuksen perusteella voidaan todeta, että osallisuutta tulisi lisätä ja korostaa laitoshuollossa. Suurin osa kyselyyn vastanneista koki olonsa hyväksi sijoituspaikassaan ja oli yleisesti ottaen tyytyväinen. Kuitenkin puolet vastaajista koki ettei heidän asiansa oikeasti kiinnosta sijoituspaikan työntekijöitä. Nuoret kokivat myös tulleensa epäreilusti kohdelluksi työntekijöiden osalta. Kyselyn perusteella nuoret kuitenkin kokivat voivansa vaikuttaa heitä koskeviin päätöksiin ja myös saavansa riittävästi tietoa näistä päätöksistä. Kyselyn perusteella osallisuus toteutuu paremmin nuoren ja sosiaalityöntekijän välillä, kuin nuoren ja sijoituspaikan välillä.

Osallisuudella on tärkeä merkitys nuoren identiteetin kehityksessä. Usein jo sijoitetuksi päätyminen, voi aiheuttaa nuorelle olon, ettei hän kykene vaikuttamaan omaan elämäänsä. Osallisuus koostuu monista asioista ja siihen vaikuttaa monet tekijät. Kuitenkin laitosolosuhteissa keskeisin osallisuuden luoja on laitoksen työntekijät. Pienetkin asiat vaikuttavat suuresti nuorten kokemuksiin, esimerkiksi jo kuulumisten kysely tuo nuorelle tunteen, että hänestä ja hänen asioistaan välitetään.

The thesis examined over 12-years-old children’s experiences related to their foster care placement and how their participation was taken into consideration. The objective was to highlight the adolescents’ own experiences and provide an opportunity for them to give feedback anonymously.

The study was implemented as a quantitative survey on the internet. The survey was sent to 76 adolescents, and the number of answers received was 12. The material was collected in May 2017 and analysed during the summer of 2017.

Based on the study, it can be stated that participation should be increased and highlighted in institutional care. Most of the respondents told that they felt good in their foster care place and they were generally satisfied there. However, half of the respondent felt that the employees of the foster care place were not really interested in them. They also felt that some of the employees treated them unfairly. The respondents still felt that they could affect the decisions concerning them and that they received sufficient information about these decisions.

Based on the survey, participation seemed to be under greater consideration with the respondents’ social workers than with the employees of their foster care places. Participation has a great significance in the development adolescents’ identity. Often the actual placement in foster care might make them feel that they are unable to influence on their lives. Participation consists of and is influenced by many factors. However, when living in an institution, the employees have the main role. Even small matters affect the experiences of the adolescent. For example, asking them how they are might give them a sense of being cared about.
