Virtuaalilasien hyödyntäminen Terveyskylä.fi -konseptissa

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää virtuaaliteknologian mahdollista käyttämistä avustavana teknologiana Helsingin ja Uudenmaan sairaanhoitopiirin Terveyskylä.fi-konseptissa. Asiaa tarkasteltiin myös siitä näkökulmasta, miten uudet asiat omaksutaan. Pilotointi ja kyselytutkimus tehtiin yhdessä HUS Tietohallinnon ja Terveyskylä-projektin henkilöstön kanssa. Terveyskylä.fi on asiantuntijoiden yhdessä potilaiden kanssa kehittämä erikoissairaanhoidon verkkopalvelu.

Pilotissa testattavat virtuaalilasit olivat Samsung Gear-, HTC Vive- ja Microsoft Hololens -lasit. Tutustumistapahtumissa esiteltiin virtuaalilasien sekä lisätyn todellisuuden mahdollisuuksia ja samalla kerättiin tietoa siitä, mihin ja miten sitä voidaan hyödyntää.

Jokaiselle testattavalle laitteelle oli luotu oma sovellusmaailmansa, ja se vaikeutti johtopäätöksen tekemistä siitä, millaiset lasit ja sovellukset voisivat olla osa Terveyskylä.fi-konseptia. Parhaimman tuloksen olisi saanut, jos kaikissa laseissa olisi testattu kaikkia testattuja sovelluksia. Lisäksi virtuaalilasit ovat tällä hetkellä vielä aika kömpelöitä, painavia ja epäergonomisia.

Yksiselitteistä vastausta ei löytynyt myöskään siihen, minkälaisten henkilöiden tai henkilöryhmien kautta uutta teknologiaa saataisiin levitettyä. Hoitohenkilöstöllä ei juurikaan ollut kokemusta virtuaalilaseista aikaisemmin, mutta käyttökohde-ehdotuksia tuli heiltä yhtä paljon kuin muun henkilökunnan puolelta.

Vaikka tarkkoja vastauksia asetettuihin kysymyksiin ei saatukaan, niin testatut sovellukset ja testatut virtuaalilasit ovat hyvä pohja jatkotutkimukselle. HUS:ssa on aloittanut toimintansa Test Laboratorio, jossa jatketaan tutkimusta virtuaalisen maailman tuomiseksi osaksi terveydenhuoltoa.

The purpose of the thesis was to resolve the possible use of virtual technology as a contributory technology in the Terveyskylä.fi project of the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS). The issue was also addressed from the viewpoint of adoption of new technology. The pilot and the survey were carried out in collaboration with the personnel of HUS Information Management and Terveyskylä.fi-project. Terveyskylä.fi is specialized health care eService developed together with experts and patients.

The following virtual headsets were tested in the pilot: Samsung Gear, HTC Vive and Microsoft Hololens. In demonstration meetings, the opportunities of virtual headsets and augmented reality were presented and simultaneously information on the possible uses of the technology were collected.

Each headset used in the tests possessed its own application environment. This limited conclusions on the applicability of augmented reality, virtual glasses and their applications for the Terveyskylä.fi concept. An optimal result would have been obtained by testing all applications for each headset. In addition, current virtual headsets are still fairly clumsy, heavy and ergonomically poor.

The thesis was not able to produce an answer on the type of persons or personnel groups that best could spread out new technology. Medical care personnel had hardly any prior experience on virtual headsets, but they still produced an equal amount of proposals for the use of the technology when compared with other personnel groups.

The applications and the virtual headsets tested in the thesis provide a good foundation for future work. However, the thesis was unable to provide unambiguous answers to the issues at stake. A Test Laboratory currently operating in HUS continues research on bringing virtual reality technology to an integral part of health care.
