Lasten kokemuksia lounaasta ja lounastilanteista päiväkodissa

Abstract

Monet alle kouluikäiset lapset viettävät ison osan valveillaoloajastaan varhaiskasvatuksessa ja syövät suurimman osan päivän aterioista päiväkodissa. Varhaiskasvatuksen ruoka ja ruokailutilanteet ovat siis oleellisia osia lasten ruokailutottumusten kehittymisessä. Merkittäviä asioita suotuisten ruokailutottumusten kehittymisessä ovat miellyttävä ruokailutilanne, lasten osallisuus sekä koettu ilo ruoasta ja ruokailuhetkestä. Lapsuuden ruokailutottumukset ja -kokemukset heijastuvat myös aikuisuuteen.

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää lasten kokemuksia Savitaipaleen kunnan varhaiskasvatuksessa tarjottavasta lounaasta sekä ruokailutilanteiden viihtyvyydestä ja ruokarauhan saamisesta. Lisäksi tarkoituksena oli selvittää lasten kokemuksia osallisuudesta lounastilanteissa. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tuottaa tietoa varhaiskasvatuksen henkilöstölle ja ruokapalvelupäällikölle palveluiden kehittämistä varten.

Lasten kokemuksia kartoitettiin teemahaastattelun ja havainnoinnin avulla. Tutkimusaineistoa kerättiin kolmena peräkkäisenä päivänä. Ensimmäisenä päivänä haastatteluun osallistui seitsemän lasta, toisena yhdeksän ja kolmantena seitsemän.

Tulokset osoittavat, että lapset ovat varsin tyytyväisiä lounaan makuun sekä terveellisyyteen. Ruokarauhan saaminen jakoi eniten lasten mielipiteitä ja esimerkiksi samana päivänä osa lapsista koki ruokailutilanteen ”meluisaksi” ja osa taas rauhalliseksi. Lasten vastauksista kävi ilmi, että ruokarauhaan vaikutti eniten melu tai äänenvoimakkuus. Osallisuus koettiin pääasiassa riittäväksi, mutta lapset olisivat halunneet itse vaikuttaa istumapaikanvalintaan tai syntymäpäiväsankarin etuoikeuksiin.

Many children under school age spend the majority of their time in early childhood education, and eat most of their daily meals in day care. The day care food and the eating situations are, therefore, a crucial part of the development of the children's eating habits. A pleasant eating situation, involving the children and the joy experienced during eating are significant in the development of favorable eating habits. The childhood eating habits and experiences reflect to adulthood.

The purpose of the thesis was to study the experiences that the children in Savitaipale's early childhood education had related to the lunch provided there as well as whether they found the eating times comfortable and peaceful. In addition, the children's own experiences of their involvement during lunch were studied. The goal of the thesis was to provide information for the personnel of early childhood education and the Chief of the Municipal Central Kitchen with an intention of improving the services.

The children's experiences were surveyed by using theme interviews and observing the eating time. The research material was collected during three consecutive days. On the first day seven children, on the second day nine and on the third day seven children were interviewed.

The children's answers showed that they were quite satisfied with the taste and healthiness of their lunch. Their opinions were mostly divided with regard to the peacefulness of the situation because some of them considered it “noisy” and other found it peaceful. According to the children’s responses, peacefulness was mainly affected by noise and volume. Involvement was mainly considered satisfying. However, the children wanted have more influence on where they were seated and on the privileges of birthday heroes
