Unohdettu yksinäisyys : Video ikääntyneen yksinäisyydestä kotihoidossa opetusmateriaaliksi Centria-ammattikorkeakoululle

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli suunnitella ja toteuttaa video opetusmateriaaliksi Centria-ammattikorkeakoulun hoitoalan opiskelijoille. Videon aiheena oli ikääntyneen yksinäisyys kotihoidossa. Ikääntyneiden määrä yhteiskunnassa kasvaa jatkuvasti, ja he elävät entistä pidempään, mikä tuo hoitoalan ammattilaisille lisää vastuuta. Videon tavoitteena oli tehdä opiskelijat tietoisemmaksi aiheesta ja lisätä heidän valmiuksiaan tunnistaa sekä tätä kautta reagoida ikäihmisen yksinäisyyteen. Ajatuksena oli nostaa esiin aiheen merkityksellisyys ja herättää opiskelijat huomaamaan, miten kokonaisvaltaista yksinäisyys voi olla ikäihmisen näkökulmasta kuvattuna.

Opinnäytetyön teoriaosuus sisälsi tietoa ikääntyneen yksinäisyyden syistä ja seurauksista sekä sen tunnistamisesta. Tietoperustassa käsiteltiin kotihoidon roolia sekä merkitystä yksinäisyyden ennaltaehkäisyssä ja siihen puuttumisessa. Siinä tuotiin esille yksinäisyyden eri muotoja ja kuvattiin, millaista vanhuksen kokema yksinäisyys on. Opinnäytetyössä käsiteltiin myös sitä, millainen video on oppimismenetelmänä.

Opinnäytetyöprosessi eteni projektin vaiheiden mukaisesti. Videon idea nousi esiin käytännön hoitotyössä tehdyistä havainnoista. Video perustui kirjoittamaamme käsikirjoitukseen ja siinä esiintyvät henkilöt olivat harrastelijateatterin näyttelijöitä. Videolla tuotiin esille yksinäisen vanhuksen arjen todellisuus ja hoitajan käynnin tärkeys. Kuvaaminen ja viimeistely tehtiin yhteistyössä Centria-ammattikorkeakoulun mediasuunnittelijan kanssa. Video näytettiin Centria-ammattikorkeakoulun hoitotyötä opiskelevalle ryhmälle ja heiltä saatu palaute oli hyvää. Video koettiin todenmukaiseksi, ajatuksia herättäväksi ja koskettavaksi.

Jatkokehittämisideana video voisi toimia keskustelun herättäjänä myös muille hoitoalan työntekijöille, jolloin tavoitteena olisi lisätä alalla toimivien ammattilaisten tietoisuutta koskien ikääntyneiden yksinäisyyttä sekä saada heidät puuttumaan herkemmin työelämässä vastaan tuleviin tilanteisiin.

The purpose of this thesis was to plan and execute a video that could function as studying material for health care students in Centria University of Applied Sciences. The theme of this video was the loneliness of the elderly in home care. The amount of the elderly constantly increases in our society as people live longer than before, which brings more responsibility for health care professionals. The aim of this video was to make students more aware of this topic and increase their abilities to recognize and that way to react to loneliness among the elderly. The purpose was to highlight the importance of this topic and evoke students to notice how profoundly loneliness can affect the elderly´s life.

The theoretical part of the present thesis contained knowledge about reasons and consequences of the elderly´s loneliness and its identification. We also discussed the role and importance of home care in the prevention and interference to loneliness. The theory brought up different types of loneliness and described what the elderly´s loneliness was like. This thesis also examined video as a studying method.

The thesis process advanced according to the phases of project. The idea of the video came up from the observations made in the health care profession. The video was based on a screenplay we wrote and people who acted in it were actors from an amateur theater. The video brought up the reality of the lonely elderly´s everyday life and the importance of a nurse´s visit. The filming and editing were made in cooperation with the media designer of Centria University of Applied Sciences. The video was shown to a group of health care students in Centria University of Applied Sciences and the feedback was good. The video was considered realistic, thought-provoking and moving.

The study could be further developed by using the video to evoke discussion with other health care workers, as well. The goal would be to increase health care workers´ awareness of the elderly´s loneliness and make them react more sensitively to situations in work life.
