Kirjalliset potilasohjeet potilaiden arvioimana

Abstract

SOTE-uudistuksen myötä terveydenhuoltoalan palvelurakenteita ja hoitotyön toimintoja on tarkoitus kehittää asiakaslähtöisemmiksi ja tasavertaisemmiksi. Terveydenhuollon hoitoprosessien kehittyessä ja hoitoaikojen lyhentyessä on tärkeä kiinnittää huomiota eri hoitotyön toimintoihin kuten potilasohjaukseen. Keski-Suomen sairaanhoitopiirissä toteutetun POIJU- hankkeen (2011-2013) pohjalta on kehitetty potilasohjausta ja luotu laatukriteerit potilasohjeille. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää potilaiden näkökulmasta kirjallisten potilasohjeiden ymmärrettävyyttä, käytettävyyttä ja merkitystä omahoidon tukena Keski-Suomen sairaanhoitopiirissä. Tavoitteena oli potilailta saatujen palautteiden pohjalta tuottaa kehittämisehdotuksia, joiden avulla voidaan parantaa kirjallisten potilasohjeiden laatua sekä muokata potilasohjeita potilaslähtöisemmiksi ja omahoitoa tukeviksi. Potilaiden kokemuksia potilasohjeista kysyttiin valmiin kyselylomakkeen avulla. Arvioinneissa oli mukana 22 erilaista kirjallista potilasohjetta. Vastauksia saatiin 75 kappaletta. Opinnäytetyön toteutuksessa käytettiin sekä määrällistä että laadullista näkökulmaa arviointeja analysoidessa. Potilaat arvioivat kirjallisten potilasohjeiden auttavan heitä leikkaukseen valmistautumisessa sekä leikkauksen jälkeisessä kotihoidossa. Potilaat kokivat potilasohjeet ymmärrettäviksi, luettaviksi ja pitivät ohjeita tarpeellisina. Kehittämisehdotuksia annettiin koskien kirjallisten potilasohjeiden sisältöä sekä ulkoasua. Potilaat kokivat kirjallisten potilasohjeiden auttavan heitä muistamaan suullisesti ohjatut asiat ja edistävän omahoitoa. Kirjallisten potilasohjeiden jatkuva kehittäminen on tarpeen, jotta kirjalliset potilasohjeet palvelisivat potilaita kokonaisvaltaisemmin.

One of the purposes of the coming health and social care reform is to develop the service structures and nursing practices towards a more client-centred and equal direction. As the care practices are evolving and care times becoming shorter, it is important to pay attention to such care practices as patient education. The Central Finland Health Care District has developed patient education in the “POIJU”- project (2011-2013) and created quality criteria for written patient instructions. The purpose of the study was to examine how intelligible and usable the written patient education materials were from the patients’ point of view as well as how the materials supported self-care in the Central Finland Health Care District. The objective was to give development proposals that could improve the quality of the patient leaflets and adjust them to be more patient centred and supportive of self-care. Patients’ views on patient leaflets were asked by using a questionnaire. 22 different patient leaflets were evaluated. A total of 75 responses were received. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used when analysing the patients’ evaluations. According to the responses, the leaflets helped the patients to prepare for operations, in post-operative care at home and self-care. The respondents found the materials understandable, readable and important. Their development proposals were related to improving the content and layout of the materials. The leaflets promoted self-care and helped the respondents to remember orally given instructions. Development of the patient education materials is needed in the future so that they would serve the patients more comprehensively.
