Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli kehittää Jyväskylän seurakuntaan kuuluvan Keltinmäen alueseurakunnan vapaaehtoistyötä. Työelämäyhteistyökumppanimme oli Keltinmäen alueseurakunnan diakoniatyö. Opinnäytetyömme on kehittämispainotteinen työ, jossa olemme käyttäneet sekä toiminnallisia että tutkimuksellisia lähestymistapoja. Opinnäytetyön pohjana on käytetty teoriatietoa vapaaehtoistyöstä ja sen kehittämisestä.

Opinnäytetyön toiminnalliseen osuuteen kuului kaksi vapaaehtoisille järjestettyä leiriä vuosina 2016 ja 2017. Lisäksi järjestimme yhteistyössä Keltinmäen alueseurakunnan nuorisotyön kanssa ikäihmisille peli-iltoja. Nuoret saivat kokeilla vapaaehtoistyötä aikuisten tukemina.

Vuoden 2017 leirillä teimme vapaaehtoistyötä koskevan kyselytutkimuksen kehittämistyömme tueksi. Olimme kiinnostuneita selvittämään, miten vapaaehtoiset kokivat vapaaehtoistyön ja mihin he olivat tyytyväisiä. Lisäksi halusimme tietää mitä heidän mielestään tulisi kehittää. Pyysimme myös palautetta leirin osalta. Kyselyyn vastasi yhteensä 14 henkilöä. Näiden vastausten perusteella pohdimme, miten vapaaehtoistyötä ja sen toteutusta voitaisiin entisestään kehittää seurakunnassa.

Kysely osoitti, että Keltinmäen alueseurakunnan vapaaehtoistyöhön ollaan erittäin tyytyväisiä. Vapaaehtoiset saavat osallistua moneen, heillä on monipuolisesti erilaisia toimintamahdollisuuksia ja he kokevat, että seurakunta arvostaa heitä. Kyselyvastauksissa korostui, että yhteishenki ja ilmapiiri koetaan hyväksi. Vapaaehtoisille järjestetty leiri osoittautui kyselyvastausten perusteella hyvin antoisaksi ja tärkeäksi monelle.

Kyselyvastausten ja havaintojemme perusteella kehityskohteeksi koimme uusien vapaaehtoisten ja erityisesti nuorten mukaan saamisen vapaaehtoistyöhön. Lisäksi tulisi lisätä tukea ja ohjausta nykyisille vapaaehtoisille. Myös osallisuutta tulisi lisätä entisestään kohti yhteisöllisempää seurakuntaa. Näihin haasteisiin ideoimme erilaisia uusia toimintamahdollisuuksia esimerkiksi uusien vapaaehtoisten rekrytoimiseksi, nykyisten vapaaehtoisten tukemiseksi ja seurakunnan eri työalojen yhteistyön lisäämiseksi. Kehittämisideoiden osalta pyrimme käytännönläheisyyteen ja ennakkoluulottomuuteen. Painotimme työssämme osallisuuden ja yhteisöllisyyden näkökulmia.

The aim of this work was to develop the voluntary work in the Congregation of Keltinmäki District in Jyväskylä Parish. In this project we co-operated with the Diaconal Work of the district. This work is strongly focused on development, and thus we have used both research-based and functional approaches. The theories on voluntary work and its development work as basis of this work.

As for the functional approach, we organized two camps for the voluntary workers of the congregation in the years 2016 and 2017. We also organized game nights to elderly people with the youth work of the district. The young were able to try voluntary work with the support from the adults working in the project.

At the camp of 2017 we did a survey on voluntary work, for support regarding our development. We were interested to find out how volunteers felt about volunteering and what things they were satisfied with while working. In addition, we wanted them to indicate the targets that should be developed. We also asked for feedback about the camp in general. Altogether 14 subjects answered the survey. Based on these answers we will discuss how voluntary work and its implementation could be developed further in the congregation.

The survey indicates that the subjects are very satisfied with the voluntary work of the congregation of the Keltinmäki district. Voluntary workers can participate in many things, they have different opportunities to operate and they find that they are appreciated by the congregation. The most striking result to emerge from the data is that people find solidarity and atmosphere to be good. Based on the data the organized camp proved to be very rewarding and important for many of the volunteers.

Based on the survey and our observation, we conclude that to get new and especially young volunteers involved in the work, voluntary work needs to be developed. In addition, we should increase the support and guidance to the present voluntary workers. Also, participation in the communal congregation should be increased. To overcome these challenges, we created new opportunities, for example how to recruit new volunteers, how to support the present volunteers and how to increase co-operation between different fields of work in the congregation. As for developing ideas, we aim at practicality and open- mindedness. The emphasis of our work is on the views regarding participation and communality.
