Abstract

Tutustuin tutkielmassani helmin koristeltuihin vaatteisiin 1900 -luvulta tähän päivään. Pohdin, mitkä tekijät ovat vaikuttaneet helmien käyttöön. Omien havaintojeni pohjalta mietin, miten helmillä koristelu on muuuttunut 2000 -luvulle tultaessa ja mitä yhtäläisyyksiä vielä löytyy.

Opinnäytetyönäni suunnittelin ideamalliston, joka muodostuu uniikeista juhlapuvuista. Tarkoituksenani on suunnitella pukuihin näyttäviä kolmiulotteisia helmiosia korostamaan pukujen juhlavuutta. Niiden tulee toimia yhtenäisenä kokonaisuutena. Ideamallisto toimii hyvänä pohjana tuleviin mallistoihin. Sen pukuja voi vielä myöhemmin kehittää eteenpäin ja siinä on aineksia useampaan mallistoon.

Aloitin työskentelyn suunnittelemalla juhlapukuja ja niihin helmiosia. Päädyin kokeellisempaan lähestymistapaan, joka on nykyään yleistä etenkin helmitöissä. Vaikutteet helmiosien muotokieleen ja pukujen värimaailmaan syntyivät talvisesta ideamaailmasta. Sulavan jään tekemät muodot sekä jäätyneet vesipisarat toimivat innoittajina helmiosiossa.

In the theoretical part of the study I concentrated on studying bead emroidery from the beginning of the 20th century until today. I also looked into how beadwork has changed over the years based on my own findings.

The purpose o this final year project was to design a collection from where I could get ideas to other collections and develop the designs later on. The collection concentrated unique evening gowns with three-dimensional bead work. I wanted to approach this project more of an experimental way, which is very common in these days when it comes to bead work.

The production part of designing and producing began by designing the evening gowns and the bead work. i found the ideas for the bead work and the ambiance for the entire collection from winter. The shapes that are created by melting ice and frozen water drops were the main influences for my bead work and also gave the color palette for the collection.
