The development project described in the thesis deals with a mobile application called Is it Gluten Free? And its further development with support of Entrepreneurial coaching. The aim of the application was contribute to the welfare of customers on gluten-free diet by offering them information on product ingredients in different languages. This development process aimed to find out, if the mobile application could become a profitable business venture. It also aimed to promote entrepreneurial abilities and to find out what was the impact of Savonia University of Applied Sciences as well as to gather and produce data on Entrepreneurial coaching from students’ viewpoint to enhance the coaching. The development project was carried out as an action research where planning, implementation and evaluation took turns, and theory and practice were combined. During the process data was collected in various ways, for example by making a quantitative market research, using electrical tools made by Savonia University of Applied Sciences for developing business models and by evaluating ideas, attending and organizing brainstorming sessions and studying other research data. To analyze the development process, a model of an entrepreneurial process was made by combining two different theories together. Savonia University of Applied Sciences played an important role in recognizing the business opportunity, and it offered lots of support for further development, especially in the development of the business model. In developing the technological solution Savonia University of Applied Sciences played a guiding role and networking was successful. As for the internationalization process, networking didn’t succeed and Savonia University of Applied Sciences was not able to offer tools or give guidance to promote the application even if the internationalization and entering foreign markets were regarded as the requirement for profitable business operations. In the end it wasn’t wise to start a business for many reasons. Firstly an open product ingredient data was not found, secondly the technological solution had a x-factor and thirdly the costs was too high. Because international networks were not created it was an impossible idea to achieve as many downloads as the business would require to be profitable. Developing the business idea helped to increase the business abilities of the authors. Based on the case study a few developing suggestions were made to Savonia University of Applied Sciences to develop Entrepreneurial coaching. Entrepreneurial coaching should support the internationalization process, give guidance in evaluating the technical solution and implement and organize coaching conversations more often to improve and support the business idea in the future....

Nowadays projects are implemented in almost every organization and in all industries in our society. Projects are an essential source of public funding and one of the main instruments in developing organizations. The number of projects has also increased in the Finnish universities of applied sciences in recent years. Research, development and innovation (RDI) is one of their main missions and projects are one way to implement RDI. The aim of this study was to make a guide on financial management for the financial team of RDI in Savonia University of Applied Sciences. This thesis was an action research, which includes a thesis report and a product, a guide on financial management. The guide will not be published, but instead, it will only be used internally in Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The theoretical part of the study consists of the project concept, project management, financial management, EU-projects and eligible costs of projects. The research was made with qualitative methods and by applying the approach of a case study and action research. First, the current situation of projects’ financial management in Savonia University of Applied Sciences was clarified. The research methods used in this study were the theme inquiry, participatory observation and document analysis. Then, the gathered data was analyzed by using content analysis. During the thesis process, the present practices of the financial management activities in projects were gathered in the guide. The objective is to improve working methods and cooperation of the financial team of RDI. A further aim of this guide is to integrate the financial management practices in projects. The guide will be an excellent basis regarding continuous development work for financial management in projects....

Pohjois-Savosta maailmalle : Pohjoissavolaisten yritysten kansainvälistymiseen johtaneita syitä

Yritykset lähtevät kansainvälistymään monien tekijöiden takia. Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on selvittää pohjoissavolaisten yritysten kansainvälistymiseen johtaneita syitä. Työn teoriaosassa käsitellään yrityksen kansainvälistymistä, kansainvälistymisen syitä sekä kansainvälistymisen mahdollistavia tekijöitä. Työn empiirisessä osassa kartoitetaan pohjoissavolaisten yritysten kansainvälistymismotiiveja sekä kerätään Golden Gavia -kansainvälistymispalvelumallista saatuja hyötyjä. Lisäksi selvitetään palvelumallin osuutta yhtenä kansainvälistymismotivaation kasvattajista.
Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena, jossa käytettiin apuna teemahaastattelua. Tutkimus kohdistettiin Pohjois-Savon ELY-keskuksen hankkeeseen nimeltä Golden Gavia -kansainvälistymispalvelumalli ja sen pilottiin osallistuneisiin yrityksiin vuosina 2011–2012. Haastatteluja tehtiin yhteensä neljä kappaletta yksilöhaastatteluina vuoden 2012 lopussa.
Opinnäytetyön tuloksena selvisi, että yritysten kansainvälistymiseen johtaneet syyt pohjautuvat haluun kasvaa, markkinavetoisuuteen, osaavaan henkilöstöön, asiakkaisiin ja markkinoihin, haasteisiin, yrityksen toimintaympäristön hallitsemiseen, referensseihin sekä yrityksen pitkään historiaan. Golden Gavia -kansainvälistymispalvelumalli vaikutti yritysten kansainvälistymismotivaation kasvamiseen ja palvelumallin suurimmiksi hyödyiksi nousivat palvelujen kokoaminen yhteen, yritysten verkostot ja osaamisen kasvu. Tutkimus kertoo, että Golden Gavia -kansainvälistymispalvelumallin tärkeimmät ominaisuudet olivat vertaistuki, Advisory Board -palvelu, tuomaristo, workshopit ja mentortoiminta. Golden Gavia -kansainvälistymispalvelumalliin oltiin tyytyväisiä ja sen jatkamista tulevaisuudessa pidettiin tärkeänä.
Tutkimuksen perusteella voidaan sanoa, että Golden Gavia -kansainvälistymispalvelumalli on tarpeellinen kansainvälistyvälle yritykselle, koska se kokoaa yhteen julkisten palveluntarjoajien palvelut. Tulosten perusteella Golden Gavia -kansainvälistymispalvelumallia voidaan kehittää eteenpäin yhä asiakaslähtöisemmäksi ja ymmärtää tekijöitä, jotka vaikuttavat yrityksen kansainvälistymismotivaation muodostumiseen sekä kasvattamiseen....
