"Tuli varmuutta siihen, että tulemme pärjäämään" : Äitien kokemuksia Hämeenlinnan kaupungin Esikko-kokeilusta

Abstract

Uudessa Sosiaalihuoltolaissa (1301/2014) painopiste korjaavista toimista siirtyi ennaltaehkäisevin toimiin. Lain myötä myös Hämeenlinnan kaupunki on panostanut resursseja voimakkaammin Varhaisen tuen perhetyöhön, jonka tavoitteena on tarjota varhaisen tuen palveluita kaikille hämeenlinnalaisille lapsiperheille. Varhaisen tuen perhetyön työryhmä kehitteli ensimmäistä lastaan odottaville perheille kohdennetun Esikko-kokeilun, jonka tarkoituksena on tarjota ennaltaehkäisevää työskentelyä kaikille Hämeenlinnalaisille ensiperheille. Kokeilu käynnistyi syyskuussa 2017.

Tämän laadullisen opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on selvittää, millaisia kokemuksia Hämeenlinnan kaupungin Varhaisen tuen perhetyön Esikko-kokeilun päättäneillä äideillä on kokeilusta. Tietoperustassa käsitellään raskautta sekä vanhemmaksi tulemista esikoislapsen saamisen, sosiaalialan ja varhaisen tuen näkökulmasta. Tutkimusaineisto on kerätty seitsemältä Esikko-kokeiluun osallistuneelta äidiltä kirjoitelmilla, joissa he kertovat kokemuksistaan kokeilussa. Analyysimenetelmänä käytetään kategoria-analyysia.

Tuloksista selviää, että äideillä ei ennen Esikko-kokeilun alkamista ollut juuri odotuksia asian suhteen. Kokeiluun osallistuminen on ollut äideille positiivinen kokemus. Äidit mieltävät, että kotikäynnit sisälsivät hyviä keskusteluja: perhetyöntekijät antoivat asiantuntevaa opastusta ja tukea sekä välittivät luotettavan ja kiireettömän ilmapiirin. Johtopäätöksenä opinnäytetyön tulokset puoltavat kokeilun kaltaisten palveluiden kehittämistä ja työskentelyn jatkamista Hämeenlinnassa.

In the new Social Welfare Act (1301/2014) the focus has been shifted from corrective actions to preventative ones. The Act has made the City of Hämeenlinna invest more resources in Early Support Family Work: the goal is to offer early support services to all families with children in the city. The working group of Early Support Family Work developed a pilot project allocated to families that are expecting their first child. The project is called Esikko, and its purpose is to offer preventative services to the target group. The project was started in September 2017.

The goal of this qualitative thesis was to examine the participating mothers’ experiences of the Esikko project. The theoretical background of the thesis deals with pregnancy and becoming a parent for the first time, from the perspective of social work and early support. The research material was gathered from seven mothers who participated in Esikko project, through writings the mothers made about their experiences. Category analysis was used as the analysis method.

The results indicate that before Esikko project, the mothers did not have many expectations on the matter. Participating in the project was a positive experience to all the mothers. The mothers feel that home visits by family workers included good conversations: the workers gave competent guidance and support, and they made the atmosphere confidential and peaceful. As a conclusion, the results suggest that services similar to this project should be continued and developed further in Hämeenlinna.
