Export of Master Degree Programme to the Philippines: Case Leadership and Service Design

Abstract

The aim of this thesis study was to find out the possibility of exporting education specifically Leadership and Service Design to the Philippines, determine the problems in the export of education, and to define the value of the studies to the students. The research also tried to identify the current market. Work was performed by different qualitative research methods such as questionnaires, theme interviews, a survey and a workshop. Service Design tools were also utilized such as personas, customer journey and service blueprint to obtain customer insights. To gain background information of existing service providers and analyze the current market, several universities in the Philippines have been benchmarked. These were organized in the Philippines. Interviews and theme interviews were administered in Finland. Among the interviewees were Filipino nurses working in Finland like practical nurses in various medical institutions, a few of them are studying part-time. Theme interview participants are teachers from Aboa Mare and Turku University of Applied Sciences. The commissioner of the thesis is the Master’s Degree Programme in Leadership and Service Design, Novia University of Applied Sciences. The study concluded that Leadership and Service Design in the Philippines is pioneering and unique of its kind therefore this research revealed that there is a huge possibility to export the programme to the Philippines. Possible customers are mostly individuals pursuing a wider career advancement or opportunity and companies aiming to spearhead in their line of services.
