Auttava omainen-toiminnan juurtuminen psykiatriseen hoitotyöhön -hoitohenkilökunnan näkökulma

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tutkia Auttava omainen-toiminnan ja sen sisältämän vertaistuellisen omaisneuvonnan juurtumista psykiatriseen hoitotyöhön hoitohenkilökunnan näkökulmasta Halikon, Turun ja Uudenkaupungin psykiatrisissa sairaaloissa. Tavoitteena oli tuottaa tietoa, jonka avulla omaisneuvontaa voitaisiin kehittää osana hoitotyötä. Henkilökohtaisena tavoitteena oli syventää osaamista mielenterveys- ja päihdealalla toimiessa.

Opinnäytetyön työstäminen alkoi syksyllä 2017 ja tilaajana toimi Varsinais-Suomen mielenterveysomaiset Finfami Ry. Opinnäytetyö tehtiin laadullista menetelmää käyttäen ja haastattelujen otanta oli 40 hoitohenkilökunnan jäsentä, joista 9 olivat koulutettuja omaisneuvojia ja 31 muun hoitohenkilökunnan jäseniä.

Koulutetut omaisneuvojat tiesivät toiminnasta paljon. Muun hoitohenkilökunnan tietämys aiheesta oli vaihtelevaa, mutta suurin osa tiesi toiminnasta pääpiirteet. Omaisneuvojista 65 % ja muun hoitohenkilökunnan jäsenistä yli puolet kokivat toiminnan juurtuneen tai alkaneen juurtumaan. Omaisneuvojat kokivat tärkeäksi, että omaisneuvonta huomioitaisiin paremmin jo työvuorosuunnittelussa. Muu hoitohenkilökunta kaipasi säännöllistä muistuttelua omaisneuvontaan liittyen. Molemmissa ryhmissä koettiin tärkeänä, että uudessa Turkuun rakennettavassa psykiatrisessa sairaalassa olisi hyvä olla oma erillinen tila, johon omaisten on helppo tulla matalalla kynnyksellä. Huomionarvoisena pidettiin sitä, miten Turun ympäristökuntien mielenterveysomaiset huomioidaan palveluiden keskittyessä Turkuun.

The purpose of this thesis was to find out how the “Helping relative- form of activity”, including the relative support guidance, has taken root in the psychiatric hospitals in Halikko, Turku and Uusikaupunki from the point of nursing staff. The aim was to produce information, that could be used to develop the peer carer -form of activity. Personal aim of this thesis was to deepen the knowledge when working with substance abusers and people, who suffer from mental problems.

The elaboration of the thesis started in autumn 2017. The subscriber of this thesis was Varsinais-Suomen mielenterveysomaiset Ry. The thesis was a qualitative study and the sample of the study was 40 members of the nursing staff, when nine of the members of nursing staff were so called “relative support guides” and 31 were other members of the nursing staff.

All relative support guides had a good knowledge of the “Helping relative-form of activity”. The knowledge of the other members of the nursing staff was variable, but most of them knew the basics of the form of activity. 65 % of the relative support guides and over 50 % of the other members of the nursing staff felt that the form of activity had already taken root or at least had started to take root. Relative support guides stated that the “relative support guidance” should be paid attention when planning the shifts. The other members of the nursing staff stated, that it would be important, that someone reminds them regularly of the form of activity. When talking about the new upcoming psychiatric hospital in Turku, both groups thought that it would be important, that there would be a separate space, where relatives could easily visit. Both groups stated that it would be worth noticing, that the surrounding municipality should be also noticed, when all services are about to center in Turku.
