Hoivakodin asukkaiden yleisimmät jalkojen terveysongelmat ja hoitajien toteuttama jalkojen perushoito

Abstract

Tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli kuvata hoitajien osallistumista ikääntyneiden jalko-jenhoitoon sekä hoivayksikön asukkaiden yleisimpiä jalkojen terveysongel-mia. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli lisätä tietoutta jalkaterveydestä ja auttaa ikääntyneiden jalkojen terveysongelmien ennaltaehkäisyssä.

Tutkimuksen avulla haluttiin korostaa jalkojenhoidon tärkeyttä ja auttaa ikään-tyneiden jalkojen terveyden edistämisessä. Tutkimusongelmia on kaksi ja ne ovat seuraavanlaiset: Millä tavalla ja kuinka usein hoitajat osallistuvat asuk-kaiden jalkojenhoitoon? Millaisia jalkojen terveysongelmia hoitajat ovat ha-vainneet hoivakodin asukkailla?

Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin paperisella kyselylomakkeella. Lomakkeet toimitet-tiin yksiköihin postittamalla ja viemällä ne henkilökohtaisesti paikan päälle. Lomakkeet toimitettiin kolmeen eri Oulun Kaupungin hoivayksikköön helmi-kuussa 2018. Kyselylomakkeita toimitettiin hoivakoteihin yhteensä 80 kappa-letta. Vastauksia saatiin yhteensä 33 kappaletta ja näin ollen vastausprosentti oli 41%.

Tutkimuksessa kävi ilmi, että paksuuntunut varpaankynsi oli useimmin havaittu vaiva. 52% prosenttia vastanneista oli havainnut paksuuntuneen varpaan kynnen yli 10:llä asukkaalla. Kynsivallin tulehdus oli myös usein havaittu vai-va. 73% vastaajista oli havainnut kynsivallintulehduksia 1-5 asukkaalla, noin joka neljäs ei ollut havainnut kynsivallintulehdusta ollenkaan. Hoitajat havait-sivat useilla asukkailla turvotusta jalkaterien alueella. Vain 3% vastaajista eli 1 vastaaja, ei havainnut jalkaterien turvotusta.

Tutkimuksessa kävi ilmi, että ulkopuolinen jalkahoitaja teki jalkahoitoja yksi-köissä suhteellisen harvoin. 79% vastanneista kertoi jalkahoitajan työskente-levän yksikössä noin kolme kertaa kuukaudessa. Asentohoitoa painehaavojen ehkäisemiseksi toteutettiin hyvin. 51,5% vastanneista ei havainnut asukkailla painehaavoja jalkaterien alueella. Loput vastanneista oli havainnut painehaa-voja 1-5 asukkaalla.

The purpose of this study was to describe the treatments that nurses perform to prevent foot problems in elderly people and to describe the most common health problems of the feet. The aim of the study is also to increase awareness of foot care and to help prevent health problems of elderly people.

There are two problems in this research and they are: How, and how often do nurses participate in the foot care of the residents in a nursing home? What kind of foot health problems have the nurses found in the residents?

The research material was collected by a printed questionnaire. Forms were delivered to the nursing homes by mail and by distributing them personally to the recipient facilities. Forms were delivered to three different Care Units in the City of Oulu in February 2018. A total of 80 questionnaires were delivered to the nursing homes.. A total of 33 responses were received thus making the response rate 41%.

It was found in this study that thickened toe nail was the most commonly found problem of the foot among the informants. 52% of the respondents had detected a thickened toe nail in more than 10 residents. In addition, Paronychia was also commonly found. 73% of the respondents had found paronychia in about 1 to 5 persons, One out of four had not seen paronychia at all. Nurses found that many residents had swelling in the foot. Only 3% of the respondents i.e. one respondent, had not noticed foot swelling in the clients.

This study showed that there were very few pedicurists working in nursing homes. 79% of the respondents reported that a pedicurist worked at the unit about three times a month. The treatment to prevent pressure ulcers was well operated. 51.5% of the respondents did not notice any pressure ulcers in the feet of the clients The rest of the respondents had seen a pressure with ulcers in 1 to 5 people.
