Katsaus silmiin : Opas silmistä osteopaateille

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on oppaan muodossa lisätä 3. ja 4. vuoden osteopaatti opiskelijoiden, sekä työelämän osteopaattien tietämystä näkökyvyn ja silmien merkityksestä ihmisen toimintakykyyn ja hyvinvointiin.

Opinnäytetyö noudattaa kuvailevan kirjallisuuskatsauksen periaatteita. Suurin osa käytetystä kirjallisuudesta käsitteli silmiä ja näköaistia ilmiöinä, sekä niiden hoitoa ilmiökohtaisena. Osteopaattisen kirjallisuus käsitteli näitä ilmiöitä kokonaisvaltaisemmin osteopaattisen filosofian mukaisesti.

Osteopaatin rooli terveydenhuollossa on maakohtaista. Oppaaseen koottu tieto ottaa osteopaatin roolin Suomen terveydenhuoltojärjestelmässä huomioon ja noudattaa Käypä hoitosuosituksia.

Opinnäytetyön luonnetta kunnioittaen opas on julkaistu infograafin muodossa.

Oppaan informatiivisuutta ja hyödyllisyyttä testattiin viimeisen vuoden osteopaatti opiskelijoilla Katsaus silmiin - luennolla. Opiskelijat kokivat oppaan kokonaisuudessaan hyödylliseksi. Vastoin opinnäytetyön alkuolettamusta, opiskelijat kokivat tarvitsevansa silmien alueen anatomian ja fysiologian kertausta. Jatkoa ajatellen opiskelijat kaipaavat enemmän tietoa silmien alueen erotusdiagnostiikasta ja osteopaattisesta hoidosta.

The purpose of the thesis was to provide a guidebook for to the 3rd and 4th year students of osteopathy and the osteopaths in the field for a deeper understanding of the effects of eyes and eyesight on health and wellbeing.

Following the principles of integrative literature review the data was gathered from the osteopathic, optometric and medical literature and studies.

Literature used in this study describes the eyes and eyesight as a phenomenon and their management accordingly. Osteopathic approach focused on describing the roles of eyes and eyesight from the osteopathic principles point of view.

The roles of osteopaths in the healthcare system varies between countries. Hence the guide book has been gathered with the role of osteopath in Finland and the Current Care Guidelines in mind.

To emphasize the nature of the phenomena handled in the theses, the guidebook was published in a form of an infographic.

The guidebook was tested in a 1.5-hour lecture for the senior students. The guidebook and lecture as a whole were regarded useful when applied to students’ personal clinic work. Against the thesis hypothesis, students reported that physiology and anatomy of the eyes should be included in the studies. In future students want to deepen their knowledge on the differential diagnosis and osteopathic treatment of eyes and eyesight.
