Tiivistelmä
Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on tuottaa hammaslaboratorion jätteen lajittelua helpottava työkalu, jätteen lajitteluohje. Opinnäytetyö on rakenteeltaan kehittämistutkimus.
The object of the current thesis is to produce a tool that eases waste sorting in dental laboratories, namely a manual for waste separation. The manual is created especially for use in the service laboratory of dental technology in TUAS. The manual is also meant to be easily applied by the professionals working in dental laboratories. The purpose of this thesis is to clarify how much and what kind of waste is produced in dental laboratories. In order to support the waste management in the service laboratory in TUAS, two periods of measuring the amount of waste are implemented in the educational dental technology laboratory in TUAS. This thesis is a development research.
The theoretical part of the thesis gives an overview of the operational environments of dental laboratories and the dental technology education in TUAS. It also presents the Finnish environmental and occupational health and safety perspective. Product sheets of the most commonly used products in laboratories, waste separation and the possibilities for recycling are examined. The present state of separating and recycling the waste that the educational dental technology laboratory in TUAS produces is also portrayed. The final part of the chapter focuses on the present state of separating and recycling the waste produced at the educational dental technology laboratory in TUAS.
The practical part of the thesis elaborates the theory of manual making and the choices that accompanied the process of making this manual. Readability and clarity of the manual are highlighted. The colour scheme of the manual is neutral and the content is factual. The operational part also analyzes the results of the two implemented waste measurement periods and the observations made in the educational dental laboratory.
The current thesis highlights the importance of waste separation and provides information that supports waste management in practice. Cultural change is a slow process and in the field of dental laboratories, currently used practices vary when it comes to waste separation. With this manual, the employees in dental laboratories can examine their actions. Furthermore, it will be possible for the dental technology education in TUAS to instill good waste separation habits for future professionals.
