Suomalaisen metsä- ja rakennusteollisuuden investoinnin kehittyminen Luoteis-Venäjällä vuosina 2005 - 2009

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on tutkia suomalaisten metsäteollisuuden ja rakennusteollisuuden yritysten Luoteis-Venäjän investoimisen kehittymistä vuosina 2005 – 2009 sekä selvittää siihen vaikuttaneita poliittisia, taloudellisia, ja alueellisia tekijöitä Venäjällä. Tutkimus toteutetaan suomalaisten metsä – ja rakennusteollisuuden näkökulmasta.

Tutkimuksessa keskitytään Venäjän luoteiseen talousalueeseen, joka käsittää Leningradin alueen, Murmanskin alueen, Pietarin kaupungin ja Pihkovan alueen. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan sekä suoria ulkomaan investointeja että portfolio- investointeja.

Opinnäytetyössä käytetään teoreettista tutkimusmenetelmää, jolla analysoitiin metsäteollisuuden ja rakennusteollisuuden investoinnin kehittymistä Venäjällä vuosina 2005 – 2009 sekä investoinnin tulevaisuutta.

Tutkimus koostuu kuudesta kappaleesta. Tutkimuksessa esitellään perustietoa investoinnista, ja kuvaillaan Venäjää metsäteollisuuden sekä rakennusteollisuuden investointikohteena.

Tämän tutkimuksen lopputulos on se, että taloustaantuma on huonontanut Suomen Venäjän- investoinnin tulevaisuuden näkymiä. Investoinnit Venäjälle ovat jyrkästi vähentyneet ja Venäjän taloustilanne on huono, mutta silti Venäjä on onnistunut lyhentämään velkaansa ulkomaille ja sekä metsä- että rakennusteollisuus ovat taantuma- aikana kasvattaneet toimintaansa Venäjällä. Investoiminen Venäjälle on sekä metsäteollisuuden että rakennusteollisuuden näkökulmasta kannattavaa, sillä taloustaantuman mentyä ohi taloustilanne tulee parantumaan merkittävästi. Koska Venäjän talous on herkkä taloussuhdanteiden vaihteluille, se sopeutuu helpommin taloustaantuman jälkeisiin olosuhteisiin. Tämä auttaa Venäjää toipumaan nopeammin taloudellisesta kriisistä.

The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to examine the development of the invest-ments of Finnish Forestry and Construction Industries in North - West Russia from the year 2005¬ to 2009 and the political, economical and regional factors influencing it. The examination is being done from the perspective of Finnish forestry and construction Industries.

This thesis concentrates on the North - West economic Area of Russia, which consists of the areas of Leningrad, Murmansk, Pihkova and the city of St- Petersburg.

The thesis studies the development of foreign direct investments and the development of portfolio investments.

The study consists of six chapters. The first chapter describes the structure of this thesis, the research methods of the thesis and from which perspective the examination is being done. The second chapter describes what a foreign investment is. The third chapter describes investments in Russia from the per-spective of the Finnish forestry industry and the fourth chapter describes them from the perspective of the Finnish construction industry. The fifth chapter discusses how Finnish investments to Russia have changed during 2005- 2009.

The conclusion of this study is that the recession in 2007 has had an impact on the prospects of Finnish investments in Russia. Although the Finnish investments and exports in Russia have strictly reduced from 2008 and Russian and Finnish economies are in a downturn, Russia has succeeded in paying back a part of its foreign debts. Also during the recession the Finnish forestry and construction industries have both expanded their operations in Russia.

Consequently investing in Russia is profitable from the both perspectives, from the perspective of Finnish forestry Industry and Finnish construction Industry for when the recession is over, the economic situation will become significantly better. Because Russian economy is sensitive to all the upcoming economic trends, it adapts more easily when economic trend changes.
