This study is written as partial fulfillment of the Dance Teacher Degree / Bachelor of Dance, at the Turku University of Applied Sciences, Ltd. The artistic choreographic part of the degree is a performance work “ole vain en” (“being”) for three dancers which was a part of KIF! - Köydet irti!-festival in May 2019.
This thesis is focused on choreographic methods that can be used for creating a good group atmosphere. In this written part the author is creating different methods used to develop a healthy and supportive work environment. The researched methods were physical contact between the work group, having an open dialogue with the dancers and a repetitive movement routine used in the beginning of the rehearsals. These methods were used in the choreographic part and then reflected in the written section.
The author has stated her values as a choreographer and starting points of her piece. She does this by telling about her pedagogical views and what she personally feels is important in creating a good rehearsal environment. Jo Butterworth’s Didactic-Democratic Spectrum Model (2009) has been used as the source for analyzing the author’s role as a choreographer.
At the end of the study the author concludes that the methods she used were important in the choreographic process with this creative performance work. The choreography was created with the dancers so a creative work group dynamic was important. Based on the conversations with the dancers and authors own analyzis about the process, you can say that the methods were useful for creating a good working environment.
