Tiivistelmä
This study is based on double conversion UPS systems. Double conversion UPS units are complex equipment consisting of various electrical devices. UPS manufacturers provide documentation, manuals, and datasheets to cope with the tedious task of its management. However, the lack of standards, confusing terminology and knowledge in different fields of engineering generate difficulties when managing UPS systems in practice. It is the goal of this thesis, to provide guidelines for the management of large scale UPS systems in data centers.
The thesis is the result of the research for double conversion UPS units, Power Xpert 9395P from Eaton and Liebert Trinergy Cube from Vertiv, operating in a large scale data center building. The thesis work includes the analysis of non-sealed lead acid batteries used as energy storage for the UPS system.
The result is an information package that assists technical personnel to familiarize with UPS systems terminology, introduce battery management systems, UPS modes, and other important features of the UPS system as a whole.
