SUOMEN ROMANINAINEN 2000-LUVULLA

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli saada ajantasaista tietoutta romaninaisten elämästä, perheestä, terveydestä sekä terveyspalveluiden käytöstä. Opinnäytetyö on osa Laurea ammattikorkeakoulun Roma-projektia ja yhteistyössä on ollut mukana Vantaan aikuisopisto. Vuonna 2006 aikuisopiston edustajat olivat perehtymässä Unkarin romaniväestön asemaan.

Teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä käsiteltiin romanien historiaa, tapoja ja terveydenhoitoon liittyviä erityispiirteitä, kuten lapsivuodeaika ja siihen liittyvät perinteet. Romanien kotimaa on ollut Intia ja Suomessa romaneita on ollut lähes 500 vuotta. Romanit ovat olleet kiertolaisia, mutta nykyään he ovat asettuneet paikoilleen.

Opinnäytetyö on laadullinen tutkimus, joka kostuu teoriaosasta sekä haastatteluosuudesta. Tämä toteutettiin lomakehaastatteluna kevään ja kesän 2008 aikana. Kyselyyn vastanneet olivat 28―41 vuotiaita romaninaisia.

Opinnäytetyön tulosten perusteella voidaan todeta, että romaninaisen elämä on muuttunut jonkin verran. Kuitenkin tuloksista käy ilmi, että romaniyhteisö vaikuttaa 2000-luvun romaninaisen elämään paljon. Tavat ja perinteet ovat säilyneet vahvoina, romanien oman kielen asema on heikentynyt.

Jatkotutkimus aiheina nousivat esille nuorten romanityttöjen käsitykset itsestään ja seksuaalisuudestaan. Tutkittua tietoa 2000-luvun romanimiehestä, heidän käsityksistään tulevaisuudesta ja koulutuksesta olisi myös hyvä saada.

The purpose of this thesis was to acquire current information about Romany women, families, health and how they use health services. This thesis is part of the Laurea University of Applied Sciences Roma-project, in co-operation with Vantaan Aikuisopisto. In the year 2006 the representatives of Vantaan Aikuisopisto visited Hungary in order to study the situation and position of the local Romany population.

The history, customs and special features of health care, like the confinement period with relevant traditions of Romany people were discussed in theoretical context. The origin of Romany people is India and they have lived in Finland for nearly 500 years. They have traditionally been vagabonds, but have these days settled down.

This thesis is a qualitative research which consists of theory and interviews. Interviews were conducted as a questionnaire during the spring and summer of 2008. The subjects were 28 to 41 years old Romany women.

According to the thesis it can be summarised that the life of Romany women has changed. Despite this as the results show, the Romany community still in the 21st century has a big influence in the life of their women. The customs and traditions have remained strong, the knowledge of the Romany language has deteriorated.

The sexuality of young Romany girls and their awareness of themselves arose as further research topics. It would also be viable to have more research information about the 21st century Romany men, their thoughts about education and their feelings about the future.
