Ammatinvalinnan vaikeus ja ohjaustarpeetturvallisuusalan opiskelijoiden kokemana /

Abstract

Kehittämishankkeella olen halunnut selvittää, saavatko peruskoulunsa päättävät riittävästi tietoa koulutuksestamme, sekä mistä he tätä tietoa hakevat. Hankkeen tulosten pohjalta voidaan pohtia, kannattaako kouluissa vierailla, vai saavatko oppilaat kaikkientarvitsemansa tiedon jostain muualta. Tuloksista selviää myös, mistä oppilaat tietoa hakevat. Hypoteesina on, että internet on se kanava, josta tietoa hankitaan. Kehittämishankkeen tarkoituksena on myös selvittää jo toisen asteen koulutuksessa olevilta opiskelijoilta, millaista ohjausta he tarvitsisivat ja haluaisivat. Tällä tiedolla pyritään vaikuttamaan opiskelijoiden motivaatioon ja esimerkiksi ehkäisemään koulutuksen keskeyttämisiä. Hankkeen tuloksista selvisi, että oppilaista vain puolet koki saavansa riittävästi tietoa alastamme. Tietoa saatiin useimmiten omalta oppilaanohjaajalta, mutta myös oppilaitoksen edustajalta sekä silloin, kun oppilas oli vieraillut koulussamme. Mieluisin tiedonhankintatapa oli internet, kannatusta saivat myös oppilaanohjaaja, messut ja oppilaitoksen edustaja. Koulussamme jo opiskelevat haluaisivat enimmäkseen luokkaohjausta ja he olivat tyytyväisiä ohjauksen määrään. Lisätietoa halutaan työssäoppimisesta, jatko-opinnoista ja valinnaisista opinnoista.

The purpose of this development project was to learn if students coming out of comprehensive school receive sufficiently information about our study programme and which sources of information they prefer. On the basis of the results of this project the purposefulness of visiting comprehensive schools can be re-evaluated. The results will also show what sources of information students normally use, and whether they can find all the necessary information from those sources. The hypothesis was that the Internet is the primary source of information. Another purpose of this development project was to establish the type of guidance students already in upper secondary education want and require. This information can then be used to affect the motivation of the students and for instance prevent students from quitting before graduation. According to the results of this project only half of the students in comprehensive schools in this study had received enough information about the study programme. Most often information was given by the student counsellor but also visits and presentations by a representative of the study programme and visits to the school were considered useful. The most agreeable source of information was the Internet; other supported methods were the student counsellor, different exhibitions and fairs, and visits from representatives of different study programmes. The students already in upper secondary education preferred classroom counselling, and were satisfied with the amount counselling received. The students would like more information on learning in the workplace, further study possibilities and optional studies.
