”Semmonen, että rauhallisesti…” : Kehitysvammaisten ihmisten käsityksiä hyvästä muutosta

Abstract

Kaksitoista aikuista kehitysvammaista ihmistä muutti kesän 2010 aikana Fallpakan ryhmäkotiin, joka aloitti toimintansa autetun asumisen yksikkönä itä-Helsingissä. Samaan aikaan kaksi ohjatun asumisen yksikköä lopetti toimintansa ja asukkaat muuttivat kuka minnekin. Tarkoitukseni tässä opinnäytetyössä on selvittää tästä joukosta valikoituneiden neljän kehitysvammaisen muuttajan subjektiivisia käsityksiä hyvästä muutosta juuri ennen uuteen kotiin muuttamista ja näin vaikuttaa muuttovalmennukseen liittyvän formaatin kehittämiseen. Tutkimukseen liittyy tarpeiden ja toiveiden kartoitus, jonka pohjana ovat yksilöhaastattelut aineiston hankinnan menetelmänä. Opinnäytetyöni on ajankohtainen myös siksi, että kyse on palvelun kehittämisestä nimenomaan asiakkaan näkökulmasta.

Ymmärtääkseen kehitysvammaisten ihmisten muuttoprosessia on syytä tietää heille tarkoitettujen palvelujen ominaispiirteistä eri ajanjaksoina. Olennaisesti opinnäytetyöhöni liittyviä käsitteitä ovat myös kehitysvammaisuus määritelmänä, hyvän muuton prosessi ja ryhmädynamiikka kehitysvammaisten ihmisten muuttamiseen liittyvinä ilmiöinä. Opinnäytetyöni pääaineisto on kuitenkin tätä opinnäytetyötä varten hankkimani haastatteluaineisto. Neljä teemahaastattelua seurantahaastatteluineen antavat kuvan näiden kehitysvammaisten muuttajien toiveista, tarpeista ja jännityksen aiheista heidän valmistautuessaan tulevaan muuttoonsa.

Sisällönanalyysin pääteemoiksi nousevat jo kysymysrungon perusteella haastateltavieni nykyinen asuminen ja asumisviihtyvyys, muuttohistoria, muuttoajatukset, muuttoon valmistautuminen, konkreettiset muuttotoiveet ja muutonjälkeiseen tulevaisuuteen liittyvät toiveet. Näiden pääteemojen lisäksi pyrin analyysissäni nostamaan esille erilaisia alateemoja, jotka mielestäni olisi hyvä huomioida muuttovalmennusformaattia kehitettäessä. Analyysissäni hyödynnän soveltaen myös SWOT-nelikenttää, jonka avulla analysoin muuttoprosessin vahvuuksia, heikkouksia, mahdollisuuksia ja uhkia.

Asumisviihtyvyyteen vaikuttavat tekemieni haastattelujen perusteella asuinympäristön tuntemus ja sen viihtyvyys, oma rauha, seura, asuinkaverit, henkilökunta ja ryhmäkodin tarjoamat palvelut. Muuttoon valmistaudutaan sekä konkreettisin muuttojärjestelyin että henkisesti asennoituen. Kehitysvammaisten muuttajien käsityksen mukaan hyvässä muutossa korostuvat muuton rauhallisuus, ohjaajilta ja läheisiltä saatu tuki sekä hyvät tulevaisuudennäkymät. Muutto herättää niin ikään paljon kysymyksiä. Tärkeänä nähdään myös tutustumiskäynti uuteen kotiin ja vanhojen hyväksi koettujen asioiden jatkuminen.

”That it happens smoothly…” Intellectually disabled persons’ opinions of a good process of moving

Twelve adults with an intellectual disability moved to a new residential unit during the summer of 2010. The new residential unit started as an unit of helped residency in eastern Helsinki. At the same time two residential units finished their function and the residents of them both had to move to another unit. My purpose in this thesis is to examine the subjective opinions of four intellectually disabled informants about a good process of moving just before the moving took place. At the same time I had a good opportunity to influence upon the planned coaching. The examination includes the survey of needs and wishes based on the interviews of the four informants with an intellectual disability. My thesis is topical also because my aim is to develope the service by paying attention to the clients’ point of view.

To understand the moving process of the people with intellectual disabilities it is important to know the development of the housing services in different periods of time. My thesis also concerns essential terms such as intellectual disability, good process of moving and team spirit. The main point of my thesis is the material of the interviews. The interviews before and after the move explain what these informants hope, need and stress about while they prepare for the process of moving.

The main themes of the content analysis – based on the question frame of the interviews - become the current living and the residential satisfaction of the informants, their personal histories of moving, their opinions of the process of moving, their preparations for moving, their concrete wishes for the move and their wishes for the future after the move. In addition to these main themes I bring up some subdivisions, which I think should be observed when the new format of coaching is developed. To analyse the strengths, the weaknesses, the opportunities and the threats of the process of moving I conduct the SWOT-analysis.

Based on the interviews the residential satisfaction is influenced by the familiarity and cosiness of the environment, quietness, social life, the residents and the staff of the same residential unit and the social service offered by the unit. People prepare themselves for the process of moving both concretely and mentally. As far as the informants with intellectual disabilities are concerned, a good process of moving goes smoothly, the support of the staff and the family is adequate and the future is considered to be better in a new home. There is a lot of questions to be answered around the process of moving. A visit to a new home is very important as well as the confidence of the fact that the good old things in life maintain.
