In this thesis work are relevant properties of a kiteboard analyzed. The purpose is to optimize parameters such as shape, rocker etc. for a kiteskimboard based on the properties. Furthermore are strength demand for the kiteboard, materials and material need, construction and suitable manufacturing processes determined and chosen to fulfill the demands. The thesis work includes an experiment to build a kiteskimboard with sandwich construction. The board is meant to work in really light winds and hold 300kg. The experiment is the result of my research and also shows the different building phases and problems that occurred during the project. A test of the board follows the experiment. I chose to build the board using fiberglass and PVC core and the board was built using vacuum bagging as manufacturing technique. The chosen construction and materials fulfill the demand to hold 300kg.
The information for my research I got from a kiteboard manufacturer, from interviews with professional riders and thru empirical tests. Literature I have used is among others books on boat design and composites. Material manufacturer’s web pages have also played an important role as a source of information. The difficulty of the research was to find information on properties of kiteboards because the development of kiteboards is based on experience and testing rather than theory.
