dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the thesis is to research how the Building and Road Research, (BRRI) can motivate ‎its workforce for increased performance at the workplace. The primary purpose will particularly ‎be on studying the factors of motivation that will lead to employees being highly motivated in the ‎research context.‎ The study was conducted by reviewing theories associated with motivation. Furthermore, personal ‎observations and discussions with some managers were conducted. Literature in electronic form ‎from the internet was observed to support the study.‎ Quantitative study was the form of research methodology adopted for the study. Data collection ‎and examination was conducted on the capabilities of examining the necessary procedure for ‎motivating employees for high performance by gathering information via a questionnaire of open-‎ended questions and the appropriate responses were evaluated using a statistical package for the ‎social science programme (SPSS).‎ Based on the end results of the research, the case company was enhanced and the main problems ‎of the company were realized and therefore, suggestions and recommendations have been made.‎ In another development, the empirical section of this thesis describes the case company and area ‎of specialization as well as general information on products and services offered in the form of ‎consultancy services and research. ‎ As a result of this report, the findings of the research was discussed extensively in the latter part of ‎the thesis which also includes conclusions which were drawn from the study, have also been ‎elaborated and recommendations made.‎ The results of the research generated diverse findings on deficiencies in the process of motivating ‎employees for higher performance in the Building and Road Research Institute. It also disclosed ‎that elements such as empowering employees and involving workers in decision making played an ‎important role in motivating employees.‎en
