Lentopelko matkustamohenkilökunnan näkökulmasta

Abstract

Tämä opinnäytetyö käsitteli lentopelkoa. Aihetta lähestyttiin matkustamohenkilökunnan näkökulmasta. Perusjoukko, josta tutkimukseen osallistujat valittiin, koostui Finnairin matkustamohenkilökunnasta. Tutkimuksella oli tarkoitus saada selville, kuinka paljon ja millaista tietoa lennoilla työskentelevällä henkilökunnalla on aiheesta. Ydinkysymykseksi nousi myös se, onko lisätiedolle tarvetta. Lentopelkoa on aiheena lähestytty yleensä lentopelkoisten näkökulmasta ja harvemmin asiakaspalvelijoiden, eli tässä tapauksessa matkustamohenkilökunnan, perspektiivistä. Tutkimus toi siis aiheesta esiin näkökulmia ja ajatuksia, joita on harvemmin päästy kuulemaan. Käytetty tutkimusmenetelmä oli kvantitatiivinen, sillä tutkimuskysymyksiin lähdettiin hakemaan vastauksia kyselylomakkeen avulla. Lomakkeet jaettiin paperiversioina matkustamohenkilökunnan henkilökohtaisiin postilokeroihin Helsinki-Vantaan lentoasemalla. Vastaajiksi valikoitui sekä miehiä että naisia. Kyselyitä jaettiin maa-liskuun 2010 alussa yhteensä 150 kappaletta ja täytettyjä lomakkeita palautui 32 kappaletta. Vastausprosentiksi muodostui näin ollen 21. Tutkimuksen tulokset paljastivat selkeän tarpeen lisätiedolle. Suurin osa vastaajista halusi aiheesta enemmän tietoa. Etenkin lentopelkoisenmatkustajan kohtaaminen ja auttamisen keinot nousivat esiin, kun kysyttiin aihealueita, joista vastaajat haluaisivat lisää informaatiota. Tutkimus osoitti kuitenkin myös, että suurimmaksi osaksi matkustamohenkilökunnalla on lentopelosta oikeaa ja ajantasaista tietoa. Raportin teoriaosuus käsitteli aivan aluksi sekä pelosta että fobiasta kirjoitettua tietoa. Tämän jälkeen perehdyttiin laajasti lentopelkoon. Tutkimusmenetelmää käsittelevä teoriaosuus ja tutkimusmenetelmän valinnan perustelu edelsivät tutkimuksen tulosten tarkastelua. Raportin lopussa paneuduttiin tutkimuksen luotettavuuteen.

Fear of flying from the perspective of cabin crew. The topic of this thesis was fear of flying. The research approached the topic from the perspective of cabin crew. The population of the research was the cabin crew members of Finnair. From that group 150 members were chosen to be the random sample. The purpose of the research was to find out how much and what kind of information do the members of the cabin crew have about fear of flying. Usually the topic has been approached from the perspective of people who are afraid of flying. This thesis had a more uncommon viewpoint of the topic. The research brought out the point of view of the customer servants who deal with the passengers during the flights. The research method used in his thesis was quantitative because the random sample of respondents was approached with a questionnaire. There were both women and men among the respondents.During March 2010 in total of 32 answers were received.Consequently the response rate of this research was 21. The results revealed that most of the cabin crew members who took apart on this research want more information about fear of flying. Especially the encounter and the helping of passengers who are afraid of flying were topics that would interest many of the respondents. The research indicated also that the knowledge that the cabin crew currently has on the topic is mostly correct. The theory of this report dealt with the basics of fear and phobia. Those are two very important aspects when trying to understand fear of flying. After fear and phobia had been explained the report familiarized the reader more closely with fear of flying. Before delving into the results of the research also the method used in this thesis was explained. An important part of the theory was also the assessment of reliability and validity of this thesis.
