Tehohoitopotilaan psyykkinen selviytyminen : Opas tehohoitopotilaille

Abstract

Tehohoitojaksolla on todettu olevan merkittäviä vaikutuksia potilaiden psyykeeseen. Psyykettä horjuttaa jo sairastuminen itsessään, mutta myös tehohoitojakso. Tehohoidossa olleiden potilaiden kokemuksissa kuvastuu esimerkiksi pelkoa, ahdistusta ja epävarmuuden tunnetta. Selviytyminen sairauden ja tehohoidon aiheuttamasta traumaattisesta kriisistä on pitkä prosessi. Psyykkiset ongelmat voivat ilmaantua vasta sairaalahoidon jälkeen, tämän vuoksi potilaiden on hyvä saada mukaansa materiaalia tukemaan heidän selviytymistään. Toimeksiantajana on Kainuun maakunta -kuntayhtymän Kainuun keskussairaalan teho-osasto. Teho-osastolta tuli pyyntö potilaille jaettavalle oppaalle. Tavoitteenamme oli tuottaa opas aikuisille tehohoitopotilaille psyykkisen selviytymisen tukemiseen. Opas tulee teho-osaston pitkäaikaisille ( yli 7 vrk) potilaille jaettavaksi heidän teho-osastolta poissiirtymisvaiheessa. Keräämistämme tiedoista kootun oppaan avulla on tarkoitus auttaa tehohoitopotilaita ehkäisemään tai pääsemään yli kriisien tuomista psyykkisistä ongelmista. Keräsimme aineiston aiheeseen liittyvästä kirjallisuudesta ja tutkimuksista. Ainesitoa kerätessämme mietimme, millaisia vaikutuksia vaikealla sairastumisella ja tehohoidolla on potilaan tehohoidon jälkeiseen psyykkiseen tilaan? Oppaan sisältöä ajatellen halusimme selvittää kuinka tehohoitopotilas voi tukea psyykkistä selviytymistään tehohoidon jälkeen?

Intensive care period has been found out to have significant effects on the psyche of the patients. Falling ill in itself causes troubles to the psyche, and intensive care makes it worse. Experiences that ICU patients have reflect fear, anxiety and uncertainty. Coping with the trauma caused by illness and intensive care is a long process. Psychological problems can arise after the hospital period, and due to this it is good to give patients material to take home with them to supports their coping and recovery. The objective of this thesis was to produce a guide for adult ICU patients to support their psychological coping. The guide will be given to long-term intensive care patients (over 7 days) on their discharge day from the ICU. The goal was to take a look at the previous research about the effects of intensive care on patients’ psyche. The information gathered into this guide is meant to help ICU patients to prevent or overcome the psychological problems and fears caused by the crisis. The thesis was collected by using the following questions as guidance: 1.What kind of effects do getting severely ill and being an intensive care unit patient have on the patients’ psychological state after the ICU? 2.How can an intensive care unit patient support his/her own psychological survival? The commissioner of this work was the ICU unit of the central hospital of Kainuu. The ICU requested a guide that could be given to patients. Therefore, along with the literature work a guide was made to support patients’ psychological coping. The evaluation of the guide was done by the ICU staff.
