1-3-vuotiaiden lasten leikki : Kuinka kasvattaja tukee leikkiä päiväkodissa?

Abstract

Opinnäytetyöni tutki 1-3-vuotiaiden lasten leikkiä ja leikin tukemisen keinoja päiväkodissa työskentelevän kasvattajan näkökulmasta. Tavoitteena oli saada tietoa lasten leikin kehityksestä, kasvattajien keinoista tukea lasten leikkiä päiväkodissa sekä saada tietoa siitä, miten kasvattajat ymmärtävät leikin merkityksen alle kolmevuotiaalle lapselle.

Opinnäytetyöni on toteutettu kvalitatiivisin menetelmin. Opinnäytetyöni viitekehyksen kokosin alle kolmevuotiaiden kehitystä ja leikkiä käsittelevästä lähdekirjallisuudesta. Aineiston keräsin haastattelemalla kuutta päiväkodin työntekijää teemojen mukaan. Kaksi haastateltavista oli lastenhoitajia ja neljä heistä oli lastentarhanopettajia. Aineiston analysoin sisällönanalyysin avulla.

Tulosten mukaan kasvattajat kokevat leikin tärkeäksi osaksi alle kolmevuotiaan lapsen kehitystä. Leikki kehittyy limittäisten vaiheiden kautta yksinleikistä rinnakkaisleikkiin ja yhteiseen leikkiin. Tulosten mukaan kasvattajat tukevat ja luovat leikin edellytyksiä monilla eri tavoilla. Kasvattajat suunnittelevat ja muokkaavat tiloja leikille sopiviksi ja valikoivat 1-3-vuotiaalle sopivia leikkivälineitä. Kasvattajan herkkyys havainnoida lasta ja aito läsnäolo tuo pienelle lapselle turvaa ja tukea leikkiin ja leikkitaitojen opettelemiseen. Kasvattajat tukevat leikin edellytyksiä mahdollistaen rauhallisen leikkiympäristön jakamalla lapsiryhmää.

Tuloksista voidaan todeta, että kasvattajien keinot leikin tukemisessa vastaavat alan kirjallisuuden esittämiä ratkaisuja. Täten voidaan päätellä, että kasvattajat tuntevat leikin tukemista käsittelevää teoriaa ja osaavat soveltaa teoriaa käytäntöön.

My final project examined the play of children aged one to three and the methods used in day care to support children's playing, from the educator’s point of view. The aim of this study was to gather information about the development of play and the educators' supporting methods and find out how the educators understood the significance of playing for children under three years old.

My final project was carried out by using qualitative methods. The framework of the study was built on literature concerning the development and play of children aged one to three years. The data was collected by interviewing six day care workers according to themes. Two of the interviewees were children’s nurses and four of them kindergarten teachers. The study material was analyzed by using content analysis.

The results of the study showed that the educators felt that playing was an important part of the development of children under three years old. Playing developed through parallel stages from at first playing alone to side by side playing and finally to co-operative playing. According to my study results, educators supported and provided playing conditions in many different ways. Educators planned and modified the children’s environment to be suitable for playing and they provided playing equipment suitable for children aged one to three. Educators' sensibility to observe children and their genuine presence brought safety to the little children’s playing and supported the development of playing skills. Educators supported conditions of playing by providing a peaceful playing environment through dividing the children into groups.

As a conclusion, it can be stated that the methods used by educators in their work correspond with the source material of the study. Therefore, it can be concluded from the results that the educators are acquainted with the theory of supporting play and can apply it in practise.
