Maat tarvitsevat palveluidensa kehittämiseen ja mielenterveysongelmien esille nostamiseen suurten kansainvälisten järjestöjen, kuten WHO:n apua Mental health can be defined as a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emtional well-being. It can be influenced by one’s personal factors, social support, experiences and cultural values. Especially in the Asian countries culture has an influence on how a person experiences his mental illness and therefore it might be difficult for him to seek help for his mental health problems.
The aim of this thesis was to figure out the mental health problems existing in Central Asia, the factors effecting on them and the services being available. The chosen topic can be seen as a part of an international Moment-project, the aim of which is to reinforce the training of the future nurses working with patients with mental health problems or drug addicts in Mongolia. The aim of the thesis was to find new information for this project.
The thesis is a descriptive literature review, former international studies being the basis of it. Five most crucial studies were chosen and being analyzed.
The focus of this thesis was to analyze the situation in China and Mongolia. According to the results the most common mental health disorders in Central Asia were depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorders. There were too few services available compared to the number of patients, the majority of them being provided by private sector. Urban inhabitants were clearly favored in the availability of the services compared to those in rural areas. Aging, marital status, the number of children, residency and income had an influence on the emergence of mental health problems.
It was not easy to gather analyzed information relating to the topic. The matter should be studied more in the future and the results should be more easily available. Those countries need the help of some international organizations such as WHO in order to be able to develop the services and to emphasize the importance of mental health problems.
