"Teet musta sairaan" : Prosessikuvaus musiikin suunnittelu- ja ohjaustyöstä lyhytelokuvassa Bändi nimeltä Rasvaton Maito (2019)

Abstract

Opinnäytetyössä tarkastellaan, kuinka valmistaa uskottavaa musiikkia punk-nuorisoelokuvaan. Sävellystyössä otetaan huomioon punkin lajityypilliset piirteet sekä lyhytelokuvan sijoittuminen yläkouluun 1990-luvulla. Eräs projektin haasteista on tehdä näkyväksi tarinan henkilöhahmojen soittotaito sekä kehitys elokuvan aikana. Säveltäjää haastaa myös, kuinka elokuvassa vaihdellaan source- ja score-musiikin välillä.

Opinnäytetyössä esitellään aluksi lyhyesti elokuvamusiikin historiaa ja keskeisiä käsitteitä. Lyhytelokuvaprojektin Bändi nimeltä Rasvaton Maito tuotantovaiheet raportoidaan musiikin ohjaamisen ja sävellyksen näkökulmasta. Esituotantojaksolla painotetaan suunnittelua sekä musiikillisia kokeiluja. Kuvausten aikana huomio kohdennetaan nuorten näyttelijöiden ohjaukseen soittokohtauksissa. Varsinainen sävellysprosessi toteutetaan jälkituotannossa.

The thesis examines the topic of creating convincing music to a coming-of-age punk film. The genre-specific traits of punk music are taken into account in the composing process, along with the movie being set in a junior high school in the 1990s. One of the challenging aspects of the project is showcasing the musicianship and progress of the characters in the movie. The composer is also challenged due to the movie’s nature of varying between source and score music.

The thesis begins with a brief introduction to the history and key concepts of film music. The production stages of the short film project A Band Called Milk are reported from the point of view of composing and supervising music. The pre-production period emphasizes planning and musical experimentation. During the filming, attention is focused on guiding young actors in scenes where they play music. The actual composing process is carried out in post-production.
