Tuotannon raportoinnin kehittäminen : Case: Kemi Shipping Oy

Abstract

Tämä opinnäytetyö tehtiin Kemi Shipping Oy:lle. Työn tavoitteena oli perehtyä Kemi Shipping Oy:n tuotannon raportoinnin kehittämiseen IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligenceraportointityökalun avulla sekä laatia ohje raportointityökalun käyttämiseen. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli lisäksi tutkia, kuinka raportointityökalun avulla saadaan oikeaa ja oikeaaikaista tietoa eri käyttäjille analysoitavaksi sekä kuinka eri järjestelmien välillä saadaan integroitua tieto yksinkertaisesti ja nopeasti.

Työ rajattiin koskemaan raportointityökalun hyödyntämistä tuotannon raportoinnissa. Työn ulkopuolelle rajattiin varsinaisten tietokuutioiden rakentaminen, asentaminen yrityksen palvelimelle sekä niiden päivitykset. Samoin ulkopuolelle rajattiin yrityksen kirjanpitojärjestelmän implementointi osaksi raportointijärjestelmää.

Työn teoreettisen viitekehyksen muodostaa kirjallisuudesta ja Internetistä kerätty aineisto sekä haastattelut. Teoreettista tietoa ei ollut runsaasti saatavilla, ja tarkoituksena oli keskittyä vahvasti käytännön ratkaisun tutkimiseen. Työn empiirinen osa toteutettiin toimintatutkimuksena, lähinnä harjoittelemalla itsenäisesti työkalun käyttöä, ja osallistumalla järjestelmän toimittajan ja Kemi Shipping Oy:n välisiin palavereihin.

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteet toteutuivat vain osittain. Syynä tähän oli raportointijärjestelmän käyttöönoton viivästyminen alkuperäisestä aikataulustaan; järjestelmän käyttöönotto on edelleen tämän opinnäytetyön valmistuessa kesken. Tavoitteiden osittaisesta toteutumisesta huolimatta voitiin todeta, että Cognos-raportointityökalu on toimiva työkalu yrityksen liiketoimintatiedon hallintaan. Se on työkalu sekä operatiivista toimintaa että johdon tarpeita varten.

This thesis was commissioned by Kemi Shipping Oy. The main objective of this thesis was to examine how the new reporting system, IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence, at Kemi Shipping Oy can be developed. The second objective of this thesis was to analyze how the new reporting system could give exact and real time information for different users to be analyzed as well as how information can be integrated between the different systems simply and quickly. Another objective was to draw up a simple manual for the users.

The study was limited mainly to the utilization of the reporting tool in the production reporting. Building up the data cubes, installing them to the server and updating them as well as the implementation of the bookkeeping system were excluded.

Material was collected both from literature and the Internet and with the help of interviews. They were used as a source in the theory section of the thesis. Theoretical information was not widely available, and for that reason this study is focused strongly on practical solution. In the empiric section the new Cognos reporting software was examined to find out what options there are for reporting. Information was gathered also in the project meetings with Cognos and Kemi Shipping Oy.

As a result of this study it became evident that Cognos improves business planning. A variety of reports can be viewed and printed. In the future planned and actual figures can be compared in real time. The list of improvements and the manual were drawn up.

Aims of this thesis were only partly achieved because of the delay in the introduction of the reporting system. Because of that, the new reporting system could not be activated. The reporting system project is still ongoing.
