"Se oli aina sellanen pikku enkeli" : Sijaisperheissä sijoitettuna olleiden nuorten kokemuksia sijaissisaruuden tasa-arvoisuudesta

Abstract

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa sijaisperheissä sijoitettuna olleiden nuorten kokemuksia sijaissisaruuden tasa-arvoisuudesta. Tutkimuksessa keskityttiin sijaissisarussuhteissa ilmeneviin tunteisiin, sijaisperheen vuorovaikutukseen ja sijaisvanhempien kasvatuksen tasapuolisuuteen. Hankkeistetun opinnäytetyön tutkimustulosten avulla pyrittiin tuottamaan tietoa, joka hyödyttää sijaisperheitä, sijaisvanhemmiksi aikovia ja perhehoidon piirissä työskenteleviä. Tutkimuksen toivotaan herättävän sijaisvanhempia pohtimaan tasa-arvoisuuden tematiikkaa ja tukevan sijaisvanhempia heidän kasvatustehtävässään sekä toimivan eräänlaisena tiedonlähteenä ja vertaistukimuotona sijaisperheessä asuville lapsille ja nuorille.

Tutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena ja aineistonkeruumenetelmänä käytettiin puolistrukturoitua teemahaastattelua. Kohderyhmänä tutkimuksessa olivat sijaisperheisiin sijoitettuna olleet 18–21-vuotiaat nuoret. Aineisto analysoitiin käyttämällä aineistolähtöistä sisällönanalyysiä.

Tutkimustuloksista ilmenee, että sijaissisarussuhteissa esiintyi monenlaisia tunteita, joista korostuivat erityisesti kateus ja mustasukkaisuus. Kateuden ja mustasukkaisuuden tuntemuksia esiintyi eritoten tilanteissa, joissa lapsi koki sijaisperheen toista lasta suosittavan. Sijaisperheen vuorovaikutuksessa painottui erityisesti samanikäisten ja samaa sukupuolta olevien sisarusten yhdessä vietetty aika. Myös riitely koettiin osaksi sijaissisarussuhteiden vuorovaikutusta. Nykypäivänä sijaisperheen jäsenten väliset suhteet ovat pääosin läheiset. Sisarusten kesken eniten yhteyttä pidetään samanikäisiin ja samaa sukupuolta oleviin sisaruksiin. Vanhempien kasvatuksen tasapuolisuutta määrittivät tuen määrä, osallisuuden kokemukset, sääntöjen ja kotitöiden tasapuolinen jakaantuminen sekä lasten tasa-arvoinen kohteleminen. Tuen määrä, osallisuus ja säännöt koettiin pääosin tasa-arvoisiksi, kun taas kotitöiden jakaantumisessa ilmeni usein epätasavertaisuutta.

Tutkimustulosten perusteella voidaan sanoa, että sijaisperheissä lapsia kohdellaan pääosin tasavertaisesti. Sijaisperheen arjessa ilmenee vanhempien taholta kuitenkin myös suosimista, jonka kohteeksi nousee lähes aina perheen biologinen lapsi.

The aim of this study was to map out the experiences of youth living in foster families especially in terms of feelings of equality between the siblings in the foster family. The focus of the study was on the feelings created by foster siblinghood, the interaction of the foster family and the equality and fairness of upbringing by the foster parents within the family. The results of this working life oriented thesis were aimed at creating important information to benefit foster families, those aiming at becoming foster parents and anyone working within the field of private care. Hopefully this study will make foster parents consider equality in terms of their own life and give them support in terms of upbringing, but also act as a source of information and support for the youth and children living in foster families.

This research was carried out as a qualitative research and half structure theme interviews were used to collect data. The target group of his study was 18-21 year-old people living in foster families. The material was analyzed by using the content analysis method.

The results show that many different feelings and emotions arise within foster sibling relationships, of which jealousy and envy seem to be the dominant ones. The feelings of jealousy and envy were especially apparent in situations where the child felt that another child was being favored in the family. In the interaction of the foster family what was especially emphasized was the time that children of the same age and sex spent together. Fighting was also viewed as a part of interaction with foster siblings. Nowadays the relationships between the individuals in a foster family are mainly close and most contact is kept between the siblings of the same age and sex. Equality in terms of upbringing from the parents was defined by the amount of support received from them, feelings of being involved within the family, the equality and fairness of rules and the distribution of housework among the children and equal treatment of the children. The amount of support received from the parents, the feelings of being involved within the family and the fairness of rules were mainly felt as equal amongst the children, whereas the distribution of housework amongst the children were often felt as unfair.

It can be concluded that children are mainly treated equally in foster families, although there seems to be some degree of favoring of the biological children in the daily life of the foster families.
