Lisäksi selvisi, kuinka vaikeaa datan kerääminen on. The topic of the thesis was the utilization of simulation in small production, i.e. in the production of small series and batch sizes. By means of simulation it is possible to model and test a factory or production facility without construction costs. The aim of the thesis was to find out how simulation could be used in small production where many different parts are made.
The simulation is easier to use in productions where the number of products is limited, and the same titles are repeated regularly. This allows you to focus on simulating work steps instead of needing to simulate many different products. This provides a comprehensive simulation package for production. How do you simulate productions that make a lot of parts of different looks and sizes? In this case, it was also necessary to consider many different additions in the simulation model, i.e. the work steps have a smaller part. Of course, it would have been possible to focus on both, but then the scope of this thesis would have been too extensive.
The Visual Components program was used to create the simulation model. The program was previously unknown. The thesis began by learning to use the program, which took up most of the time. During this time, it became clear that accurate simulations of the different work steps would be impossible in this work. The model simulates the material flow, i.e. the model is not an exact copy of the factory or production plant.
A functional simulation model was made in the thesis. It became clear how difficult it is to collect data on site. The work collected data from seven work orders, the purpose was to collect data from 30 orders. As a result, the model was validated with 18 imaginary work orders. Further development could focus on collecting data from the output, and then simulations can be done with the right data. The new version of the program is something that should also be tested. New features in this version are process modeling and faster processing of long phase times.
