We know that stock investment is one of the ways to get funding as well as make investments. However, one is exposed to several risk which could result in losses or other related damages. The knowledge or understanding about stock as a form of investment and its related risks and benefits therefore remains very crucial. The present study therefore sought to explore the level of understanding or knowledge about stock investment among students.
Structured Questionnaires were created in Chinese and used for this study where various student participants were able to answer various questions between the period of March to April 2017.
The results from the study indicate that majority of students have a basic level of knowledge about stocks (64.58%) whereas a significant number of students do not have knowledge about stocks at all (25%). A closer look at the results shows how this level of knowledge about stocks is reflected among students comparing their year of study and also by gender. Moreover, results indicate that a total percentage of 52.08% have a basic level of knowledge about fundamental analysis for stock whereas 43.75% have no level of knowledge with a greater percentage of students (81.25%) do not know any of the technical analysis for stock, 12.5% (MACD), 8.3% (KDJ), 4.17% (OF) and 2.08% (RSI).
The results from this study generally indicate that majority of students have a basic level of knowledge or understanding about stock investment which provides the need for enough education and sensitization among the younger generation.
