Vahvistaako rakennusalan ammatillisen perustutkinnon tuoma ammattitaito rakennusmestarin ammattitaitoa?

Abstract

Rakentamismääräysten mukaan kaikilla rakennustyömailla tulee olla vastaava työnjohtaja, jonka koulutustaso on vähintään teknikkotasoa. Tämän tasoinen koulutus lopetettiin Suomesta 1990-luvulla. Sitä yritettiin korvata insinöörikoulutuksella vuoteen 2007 asti huonolla menestyksellä. Tänä aikana vaje rakennusmestareista kasvoi huomattavaksi. Tästä johtuen valtioneuvosto käynnisti rakennusmestarikoulutuksen uudestaan syksyllä 2007.

Rakennusmestarit työskentelevät rakennustyömailla yhteistyössä käytännön rakentajien kanssa. Aikaisemmin rakennustyöntekijöillä oli luontevana jatko-opiskeluväylänä hakeutua teknikkokoulutukseen ja suorittaa rakennusmestarin tutkinto. Työtä he jatkoivat rakennustyömailla työnjohtotehtävissä ja olivat hyvin sitoutuneita siihen.

Tämän työn tavoite oli tutkia onko rakennusalan perustutkinnon tuomasta osaamisesta hyötyä rakennusmestarin ammatissa. Lisäksi halutaan selvittää voisiko rakennusalan perustutkinto olla vieläkin luonteva väylä jatko-opintoihin rakennusalalla.

Tutkimuksen teoreettinen osa käsittelee ammattitaidon käsitettä ja sen sisältöjä sovellettuna rakennusmestarin ammattitaitoon. Tutkimusongelmiin haettiin vastauksia haastattelututkimuksella. Teemahaastattelua käytettiin tässä työssä tutkimusmenetelmänä. Haastateltavilla oli laaja ja monipuolinen kokemus siitä, mitä rakennusmestarin pitää osata, että hän voi toimia rakennusmestarin ammatissa.

Tutkimus antaa vahvistusta siihen, että toisen asteen rakennusalan perustutkinto ja työkokemus vahvistavat rakennusmestarin ammattitaitoa ja nopeuttavat ammatin harjoittamiseen liittyvien asioiden oppimista. Rakennusmestarikoulutusta voidaan pitää luontevana jatko-opintoväylänä rakennusalan perustutkinnon suorittaneille.

According to the building regulations all building sites must have the foreman in charge, whose level of education is at least on the level of that of a technician in minimum. This level of education was however finished in the 1990's. Several attempts to replace the education of a technician in construction technology with the education of a polytechnic engineer were made during the years before 2007 but they were not a success. During this period the deficit in the number of construction managers increased to a remarkable degree. Due to the situation the government launched the education of a construction manager again in autumn 2007.

Construction managers work in building sites in close cooperation with building workers. Earlier the building workers considered the education of a technician as a natural path of continuing education to qualify as a construction manager. They continued their work in building sites in supervisory duties and were very committed to their work.

The aim of this survey was to find out if the knowledge and skills of the completed upper secondary education syllabus in construction technology is of benefit in the occupation of a construction manager. In addition the aim was to find out if the completion of vocational upper secondary education and training is still a natural path of graduate studies in civil engineering.

The theoretical part of the survey deals with the concept of vocational skills and their contents applied in the vocational skills of a construction manager. The thematic interview was used as a research method. The persons interviewed had a wide experience of the knowledge and skills demanded in the profession of a construction manager.

On the basis of the survey it can be concluded that the completed basic education syllabus in construction technology together with work experience strengthen the professional skills of a construction manager and accelerate the learning of the knowledge and skills related to the profession. The education of the construction manager can be considered a natural path of continuing education to those who have completed the upper secondary education in construction technology.
