Kehittämistyön tuloksena syntyi valmis aistiseinä, jolla on toimeksiantajalle monia merkityksiä. Kaikki lapselle soveltuvat aistihetket voivat auttaa jäsentämään toimintaa. Myös esitteellä koetaan olevan merkitystä, sillä selkeät ohjeet aistiseinän käyttöön ovat edellytys aistihetkien toteuttamiselle. This bachelor’s thesis is a development project for Tutoris Oy which provides speech, occupational and physiotherapy services for people of all ages. The objective was to design and produce a sensory wall that can be used to support and practice the regulation of the level of alertness. The sensory wall will be used with child patients who receive occupational or speech therapy. It is located in the waiting room in the office of Tutoris Oy in Turku. In addition, a brochure was made to support the use of the sensory wall. Behind this development project was the need for a tool that could be used for supporting and enabling the regulation of the level of alertness and sensory moments.
To support the designing of the sensory wall, theory was used about the effects of sensory input to the experience of how one is feeling, about the state of alertness and its regulation and about multisensory and enriched environments. The Person-Environment-Occupation (PEO) model was also in the background of the project. Open communication with the employer and reflective working methods were emphasized in the design and production process. The progression of the project was monitored by accounting, photographing and keeping a project diary.
The result of this project was the sensory wall which has many meanings to the employer. The sensory wall offers opportunities for the child to regulate their state of alertness and to practice sensory moments with an adult. All kinds of sensory moments are useful to structure one’s occupation. The brochure has also meaning because clear instructions for using the sensory wall are required for implementing the sensory moments.
