Tutkimus toteutettiin tekemällä DMAIC-projekti tuotantosolujen testausvaiheen prosessille. Tuotantosolussa valmistetaan optisia solmuja.
The aim of the study was to determine, whether the DMAIC project would improve the first pass yield of the production cell and turnaround time. The company’s production has long developed in line with Lean manufacturing and the easy wastes have already eliminated. This work there is familiarization with Lean Six Sigma tools, as well as on the studies and books already done on the current topic.
The study put into effect by making a DMAIC project for the production cells testing phase process. Optical nodes will manufactured in the production cell. In each phase of the DMAIC process, Lean or Six Sigma tools were used, which give answers to the particular phases questions. One area of research has been to figure out, whether confluences are there able to found from the SPC data on operator errors, or for reasons that prolong the turnaround time, even if the first pass yield does not degenerate. Follow-up the work, interviews, and a survey showed that not all errors not be revealed using by SPC data. There is possibilities for improvement in the lead-time and quality.
The studies main conclusion is that with Lean Six Sigma tools, wastage and error spots still found can found from process. The utilization of SPC data still has the potential to be further improved and different useful data could be stored there, which allows potential problems to tackle more rapidly.
As result of the studies, improvement opportunities found in the measurement systems, working methods and products in terms of productivity. The DMAIC project not completed in this study, because the implementation of suggestions for improvement delayed to a later date. The improvement and follow-up phase of the DMAIC project are just speculation on about what could be improve, and on how the changes could affect the initial yield and lead times. Measurement, analysis and the improvement phase results, however, can be use later. For some of the products in the study an update is on the way, which would allow making some of the research's findings and suggestions for improvements available for use.
