Nuorten elämäntilanne ja palveluihin ohjaamisen polut Kokkolan ja Seinäjoen etsivässä nuorisotyössä

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tilaajana toimi Kokkolan ja Seinäjoen kaupunkien nuorisopalveluiden etsivät nuorisotyöt.

Tarkoituksena oli selvittää nuorten elämäntilanne ja palveluihin ohjaamisen polkuja Kokkolan ja Seinäjoen etsivässä nuorisotyössä ja tuoda nuorisotyöntekijöille uutta näkökulmaa toistensa toiminnoista sekä mahdollistaa jatkuva työn reflektointi. Tarkoitus oli myös selvittää, mitä voidaan huomioida, kun asiakas tulee etsivän nuorisotyön palveluiden piiriin tai asiakas ohjataan muista palveluista etsivän nuorisotyön piiriin. Saatuja tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää etsivän nuorisotyön palveluiden kehittämisessä.

Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena ja aineisto kerättiin Webropol-verkkokyselynä Kokkolan ja Seinäjoen etsiviltä nuorisotyöntekijöiltä. Hyödynsimme Nuorisotilastot.fi- sivuston tilastotietoja ja kartoitimme Kokkolan ja Seinäjoen etsivien nuorisotyöntekijöiden ajatuksia tilastoista nousseista ilmiöistä kuuden avoimen kysymyksen avulla.

Tuloksista ilmeni, että Kokkolan ja Seinäjoen etsivän nuorisotyön tavoittamilla nuorilla on samankaltaisia elämäntilanteita, kuten asumismuodot ja opiskelut. Nuoria tavoitettiin molemmissa kunnissa toisen asteen opintojen kautta. Tuloksista ilmeni eroja siinä, miten Kokkolassa toisen asteen opintojen kautta tuli etsivän nuorisotyön palveluiden piiriin 46 % nuoria, kun taas Seinäjoella osuus oli 19 %. Tuloksista selvisi myös, miten opintotuki oli Kokkolan nuorilla pääasiallinen tulonlähde, nuorten tullessa etsivän nuorisotyön asiakkaaksi. Seinäjoen etsivän nuorisotyön asiakkaiden suurin tulonlähde oli pitkäaikainen toimeentulotuki. Kokkolan etsivien nuorisotyöntekijöiden vastauksista nousi esiin nuorten tarpeet tulla kuulluksi ja kohdatuksi ihmisenä. Seinäjoen etsivien nuorisotyöntekijöiden vastauksista korostui tärkeys luottamussuhteen rakentumisesta ja nuoren motivoinnista.

This thesis was commissioned by the youth services’ outreach youth work programmes in Kokkola and Seinäjoki.

The aim of this thesis was to discover the life conditions of young people and the paths of guidance to services in outreach youth work in Kokkola and in Seinäjoki, to give new perspectives to the youth workers, and to enable constant learning and understanding in their work. The aim was furthermore to clarify the youth workers´perspectives that need considering when the client falls within the scope of the outreach youth work, or the client is directed to the outreach youth work from other services. The results of the survey conducted in this thesis can be used to develop outreach youth work services.

This thesis was carried out as qualitative research the material for which was collected via a Webropol online survey from the outreach youth workers of Kokkola and Seinäjoki. The authors also utilized the statistics from the Nuorisotilastot.fi – website and investigated, what kind of thoughts the outreach youth workers from Kokkola and Seinäjoki had when reviewing the statistics using six open-ended questions.

The results revealed that at the time when the outreach youth workers reached the young, clients had similar life situations in both cities, for example living arrangements and studying. The workers reached 46% of the young people in Kokkola through secondary schools, whereas in Seinäjoki the proportion was only 19%. The results also revealed that the main source of income of the youth at the time of entering the services of the outreach youth work was the student financial aid in Kokkola, and in Seinäjoki it was the long-term social assistance aid. The answers of the Kokkola outreach youth workers highlighted the young people’s need to be heard and to be taken seriously. Respectively, the answers from Seinäjoki outreach youth workers underlined the importance of building trust and motivating young people.
