Tiivistelmä
Opinnäytetyömme tarkoituksena on kuvata, millaista kehitysvammaisen lapsipotilaan kohtaaminen on kuvantamisyksikön hoitohenkilökunnan näkökulmasta – millaisia haasteita kehitysvammainen lapsipotilas tuo kuvantamistilanteeseen mahdollisilla erityistarpeillaan ja millaisia keinoja kuvantamisyksiköissä on käytössä näiden tarpeiden kohtaamiseen turvallisen kuvantamistutkimuksen toteutuksessa. Opinnäytetyömme tavoite on löytää mahdollisia kehityskohteita edellä mainittuihin keinoihin, sekä löytää mahdollisia uusia työkaluja kohtaamiseen.
Opinnäytetyö koostuu kirjallisuuskatsauksesta sekä haastattelututkimuksen analyysistä.
Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa käsitellään jo tutkittua tietoa kommunikaatiosta, lapsipotilaan erityisvaatimuksista ja kehitysvammaisen potilaan kokemuksista terveydenhuollossa.
Haastattelut toteutettiin kahtena erillisenä ryhmähaastatteluna, joissa molemmissa haastateltiin kolmea kuvantamisyksikön hoitajaa. Haastattelu perustui kolmeen teemaan; ”kehitysvammaisen lapsen kohtaamisen erityispiirteet”, ”tekijät, jotka muodostavat haasteita kommunikaatioon” ja ”kehitysvammaisen lapsen kohtaamisen edistäminen”.
Haastattelututkimuksen vasataukset kehitysvammaisen lapsipotilaan kohtaamisesta kuvantamistutkimuksissa vastasivat pitkälti tutkittua tietoa muilta terveydenhuollon aloilta. Hoitohenkilökunta koki, että tällä hetkellä käytössä olevat apuvälineet olivat toimiva lisä kohtaamiseen ja turvallisen kuvantamistutkimuksen suorittamiseen. Mahdollinen lisäkoulutus koettiin ajankohtaiseksi joko tutkinto-opintojen aikana, tai aivan työuran alussa. The intent of our thesis is to delineate how imaging department staff experiences encountering disabled pediatric patients – which challenges occour when attending to the needs of disabled pediatric patients, and which tools are in use to provide safety and comfort in facing these challenges, while keeping safe practise of radiography as a priority. The goal of our thesis is to find if there is room to improve the practises in use and if there are tools not yet in use, that would facilitate even safer and more positive patient encounters.
Our thesis consists of a literature review and an analysis of ourinterview-based research.
The literature review covers communication, special requirements of pediatric patients and disabled patients’ experiences of healthcare in general.
The interview-based study was conducted in two seperate group interviews, each consisting of three members of the imaging departments staff. The interviews were based on three seperate themes; ”the special traits of encountering a disabled child”, ”factors, that make communication challenging” and ”improving the encounter with a disabled child”.
The answers given in the interviews around radiography matched the literature depicting healthcare procedures in general quite well. The staff maintained that the tools already in use were effective in making sure the radiographic studies were safely executed. The interviewees also pointed, that if there was to be additional training regarding the subjects, it should be during either the radiographer degree program or right in the beginning of a radiographer’s career.
