Teimme opinnäytetyömme yhteistyössä Pohjois-Pohjanmaan sairaanhoitopiirin kanssa. Idea opinnäytetyöhön saatiin kysyttäessä yhteistyökumppanilta. Opinnäytetyön aiheena on Surupolku koulutus. Surupolku koulutuksella tarkoitetaan Pohjois-Pohjanmaan sairaanhoitopiirin lasten- ja nuorten vuodeosastoilla käytössä olevaa koulutusta henkilökunnalle. Opinnäytetyössä yhdistyy hoitotieteellinen ja hengellinen viitekehys. Opinnäytetyön tavoite on tehdä esite Surupolku koulutuksesta, jotta koulutuksen mallia voidaan jakaa toisille osastoille tai sairaanhoitopiireille. Surupolku koulutus on ainutlaatuinen, sillä sitä ei ole vielä käytössä muualla, kuin Pohjois-Pohjanmaan sairaanhoitopiirillä. Surupolku on hoitohenkilökunnalle suunnattu koulutus, jossa kuljetaan vainajan reitti sairaalan vuodeosastolta hautausmaalle samalla keskustellen. Surupolku koulutuksen tarkoituksena on vahvistaa hoitohenkilökunnan ammattitaitoa ja työssä jaksamista, omaisten tukemista, oppia uutta saattohoidosta ja vainajan laittamisesta.

Opinnäytetyö toimii Surupolun auki kirjoitusmallina, sillä siitä ei ole aikaisemmin kirjoitettua mallia. Opinnäytetyön tarkoitus on myös perustella Surupolun tarpeellisuutta ja tallentaa siitä yleinen malli kirjallisena ylös. Surupolulla on monta ulottuvuutta, ja siksi sen pitäminen on koettu tärkeäksi, niillä osastoilla, joilla se on käytössä. Olemme tuoneet esille myös Surupolun henkisen ja hengellisen hoitotyön näkökulman. Opinnäytetyössämme olemme arvioineet myös kriittisesti sen sisältöä, yhdessä opponenttien, opettajien ja työelämän yhteistyötahon kanssa. Surupolusta tietoa on saatavilla ainoastaan Pohjois-Pohjanmaan sairaanhoitopiirin lasten vuodeosastoilla työskenteleviltä hoitajilta ja sairaalapastorilta, siitä ei ole kirjoitettua mallia ennen tätä opinnäytetyötä. Olemme arvioineet kriittisesti sovellettavan kirjallisen materiaalin valitsemisessa, ja kirjallisuudella perustelemme Surunpolun työssä jaksamisen tukemisen, uuden oppimisen ja työnohjauksellista näkökulmaa.

Opiskelijoina ja tulevina sairaanhoitaja-diakonissoina opinnäytetyön toteuttaminen on antanut meille tietoa surun käsittelemisestä osana hoitotyötä, mutta myös työssä jaksamisesta, kuolevan potilaan hoitotyöstä, sekä uuden oppimisen mielekkyydestä työsuhteessa. Olemme saaneet seurata Surupolku koulutuksen myötä seurakunnan ja sairaalan hoitajien välistä vuoropuhelua ja yhteistyötä. Moniammatillisuus on näkynyt voimavarana opinnäytetyössämme.

ABSTRACT

This thesis was made in collaboration with Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District, Finland. The idea of thesis was obtained by asking from the thesis partner. The topic of this thesis is the Mourning Path Training. The Mourning Path refers to the training available for staff working in the wards for children and adolescents in Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District. This thesis combines the nursing and the spiritual frames of reference.

The aim of this thesis was to make a brochure about the Mourning Path training so that the model of education could be distributed to other departments or hospital districts. The Mourning Path training is unique as it is not yet in use elsewhere than in the Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District. The Mourning Path is a training for nursing staff in which the route from the hospital ward to the cemetery is gone through while discussing. The purpose of the Mourning Path training is to strengthen the professionalism and coping at work of the health care staff, support relatives, learn new things about palliative care and dressing the deceased.

The thesis serves as a writing out model for the Mourning Path, as there is no previously written model for it. The purpose of the thesis was to justify the necessity of the Mourning Path and to record a general model of it in writing. The Mourning Path Training has many dimensions and therefore conducting it is perceived as important in those departments where it is used. The perspective of the mental and spiritual nursing of the Mourning Path training has been highlighted. Content of the thesis was critically evaluated together with the opponents, teachers and the co-operation partner of working life. Information about the Mourning Path is only available from nurses and hospital pastors working in the children’s wards of the Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District. There was no written model of the Mourning Path before this thesis. The evaluated and selected written material supports arguments for coping at work, new learning and work supervision.

As students and future nurse-deaconesses, the implementation of the thesis has given information about dealing with grief as a part of nursing, but also about coping at work, nursing of a dying patient, and the meaningfulness of new learning in the employment relationship. Through the Mourning Path training, it has been possible to follow the co-operation between the parish and the hospital caregivers. Multi-professionality has been reflected as an asset in this thesis.
