Ikäihmisten päihteidenkäytön puheeksiottomalli

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli luoda yksi esimerkkimalli helpottamaan päihteidenkäytön puheeksiottoa. Mallissa korostettiin aidon kohtaamisen ja vuorovaikutuksen merkitystä. Puheeksiottomallin tarkoituksena oli osoittaa, minkälaista osaamista sosiaalialan ammattilainen voi tuoda kotihoidossa toteutettavaan päihdetyöhön. Opinnäytetyössä haluttiin rohkaista työntekijöitä ottamaan päihdeasiat puheeksi omalle persoonalleen ominaisella tavalla. Lisäksi työn tarkoituksena oli painottaa, että ikäihmisten päihteidenkäyttö tulisi ottaa puheeksi mahdollisimman varhaisessa vaiheessa.

Malli muodostettiin teoriatiedon ja Eksoten kotihoidon päihdevastaaville teetetyn sähköisen kyselyn pohjalta. Kyselyn avulla haluttiin selvittää päihdevastaavien kokemuksia ja näkemyksiä päihteidenkäytön puheeksiotosta. Teoriaosuudessa perehdyttiin muuttuvaan vanhuuteen, ikääntyneisiin alkoholinkäyttäjinä, kohtaamiseen ja palvelujärjestelmän ikäeettiseen päihdetyöhön. Toiminnallisesta opinnäytetyöprosessista on pidetty opinnäytetyöpäiväkirjaa, jonka avulla työn eteneminen on dokumen-toitu.

Opinnäytetyön tuloksena syntyi yksi esimerkkimalli ikäihmisten päihteidenkäytön puheeksiottoon. Malliin muodostui kolme eri vaihetta: päihteidenkäytön kartoitus, tavoitteiden asettaminen ja tavoitteita kohti kulkeminen. Mallia on mahdollista soveltaa myös kotiin jalkautuvassa päihdetyössä.

The aim of this thesis was to create a model to facilitate addressing the use of intoxicants. The model emphasizes the importance of genuine meetings and interactions with customers. The purpose of the model is to demonstrate the skills that a professional in social services can bring to the home care of intoxi-cant users. The thesis aims to encourage social workers to address the use of intoxicants in a way that suits their own personalities. Additionally, it is empha-sized that the intoxicant abuse of the elderly should be addressed as early as possible.

The model combines theory with the results from an electronic questionnaire given to the people in charge of the home care of intoxicants users at the South Karelia District of Social and Health Services (EKSOTE). The aim of the questionnaire was to find out what kinds of experiences and opinions those in charge of the intoxicant user care had on addressing the use of intoxicants. The theoretical background deals with old age as a changing concept, the elderly as alcohol users, meeting the customers, and age as an ethical question in services for substance users. A thesis journal provides a documentary of the progress of this practice-based thesis.

As a result of the thesis a model of how to address the intoxicant use of the elderly was created. There are three phases in the model: charting the use of intoxicants, setting goals, and progressing towards the set goals. The model can also be adapted to the home care of intoxicant users.
