"Sai olla kahdestaan" : Vuorovaikutusleikkiryhmä osana lastensuojelulaitoksen omaohjaajatyöskentelyä

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli kehittää erään Pohjois-Savon alueella sijaitsevan lastensuojelulaitoksen henkilökunnan osaamista lisäämällä heidän tietoisuuttaan lapsen varhaisten kiintymyssuhteiden merkityksestä sekä niistä keinoista, joiden avulla omaohjaajasuhdetta huostaanotettuun lapseen voidaan tietoisesti kiintymyssuhdenäkökulman huomioiden rakentaa. Työn lähtökohtana oli kehityspsykologian kiintymyssuhdeteoria ja sen sovellusten hyödyntäminen osana omaohjaajatyöskentelyä.

Työ toteutettiin mainitussa lastensuojelulaitoksessa toiminnallisena opinnäytetyönä. Toiminnallinen osuus alkoi lastensuojelulaitoksen asukkaiden käyttäytymisen arvioinneilla. Arvioinnit toteutettiin yhteistyössä lastensuojelulaitoksen henkilökunnan kanssa käyttäen kahta eri menetelmää, joista toinen kartoitti lasten ja nuorten psykososiaalisia vahvuuksia ja vaikeuksia yleisellä tasolla, toinen taas keskittyi kiintymyssuhdevaurioihin liittyvän oireilun tunnistamiseen. Arviointeihin tukeutuen muodostettiin kaksi ryhmää, kummassakin kaksi nuorta omaohjaajineen, joille järjestettiin terapeuttista ryhmätoimintaa. Ryhmätoiminnan suunnittelussa hyödynnettiin soveltaen kiintymyssuhdekehitystä tukevan Theraplay-terapian työmenetelmiä ja ajatusmaailmaa.

Ryhmätoiminnasta kerättyjen palautteiden perusteella toiminta koettiin onnistuneeksi, ja se oli hyödyttänyt toimintaan osallistuneita nuoria sekä omaohjaajien työtä heidän kanssaan. Toiminnasta oli saatu toisaalta tietoa ja menetelmiä omaan työhön, toisaalta sen koettiin lähentäneen tai syventäneen omaohjaajasuhdetta. Niiden havaintojen perusteella, joita opinnäytetyön tekijällä oli mahdollisuus tehdä työskennellessään itse ohjaajana kyseisessä lastensuojelulaitoksessa, myös joitakin konkreettisia asioita oli siirtynyt ryhmätoiminnasta toimintaan osallistuneiden nuorten sekä heidän omaohjaajiensa väliseen arkeen.

The aim of the Bachelor’s thesis was to develop the skills of the personnel in a child welfare institution located in the Northern Savo region by increasing their knowledge of the significance of a child's early attachment and the means by which to forge the relationship between a child taken into care and his/her appointed caregiver, considering the aspect of attachment. The basis of the thesis was the attachment theory of developmental psychology and its applications within the context of children’s institutional care.

The Bachelor's thesis was carried out in the aforementioned child welfare institution as a functional thesis. The functional share of the thesis was begun by assessing the behaviour of the residents of the institution. The assessments were carried out in collaboration with the child welfare institution staff by using two different methods: one evaluated the children’s and youngsters’ psychosocial strengths and difficulties at a general level, and the other focused on the identification of the symptoms related to attachment disorders. Based on the assessments, two groups were formed, each with two teenagers and their appointed caregivers. Therapeutic group activities, which were planned by utilizing the idea and methods of the attachment-supporting model of interaction therapy called Theraplay, were organized for the groups.

Based on the feedback collected from the participants, the group activities were considered to be successful and beneficial to the teenagers involved as well as to the work of their appointed caregivers. On the one hand, the activities had generated new information and working methods for the appointed caregivers. On the other hand, they had deepened the relationships between the teenagers and their appointed caregivers. Based on the observations that the author of the thesis had the opportunity to make while working as a caregiver in the child welfare institution, some concrete matters had been moved from the group activities to the everyday life of the teenagers and their appointed caregivers.
