Pilvipalvelut ja niiden vertailu

Pilvipalvelussa tietokoneen sovellukset, osa laitteistoa tai muut palvelusuoritteet hankitaan internetistä, eli vuokrataan pilvestä ja ne sijaitsevat verkossa. Sitä voidaan myös ajatella toimintamalliksi, jolla pääsee kustannussäästöihin ja se mahdollistaa fyysisistä konesaleista luopumisen. Pilvipalvelut ovat nykypäivänä vahvassa kasvussa ja alkavat yleistyä yritysmaailmassa.

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on perehtyä pilvipalveluihin, määritellä pilvipalvelu käsitteenä ja perehtyä myös käsitteisiin IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service) ja PaaS (Platform as a Service). Työssä perehdytään tarkemmin siihen, mitä pilvipalvelut ovat ja niiden hyötyihin ja haittoihin. Opinnäytetyössä vertaillaan myös kolmea eri pilvipalveluntarjoajaa, Amazon Web Serviceä, Herokua, Zohoa, ja niiden soveltuvuutta pienille tai keskisuurille yrityksille.

Vertailussa tarkastellaan, miten nämä pilvipalveluntarjoajat eroavat toisistaan ominaisuuksiltaan ja hinnoittelultaan.

Työn tuloksissa selvitetään pilvipalveluntarjoajien soveltuvuus, palveluiden käyttötarkoitus ja hinta. Tulokset voivat helpottaa yrittäjiä valitsemaan heille soveltuvan pilvipalveluntarjoajan.

Opinnäytetyö perustuu pääosin lähdemateriaaliin. Lähdemateriaalina käytettiin suomenkielisiä ja englanninkielisiä teoksia ja artikkeleita.

In cloud computing, computing resources such as applications or parts of the hardware are acquired from the internet, or in other words from the cloud. It can also be seen as a method, which enables cost-savings and allows abandoning physical data centers. Cloud services are growing rapidly today, and are becoming more common in the business world.

The primary objectives of this thesis are to be acquainted with the idea of cloud computing, define cloud computing as a concept as well as explore the concepts IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service). This thesis also compares three different cloud computing platforms, i.e. Amazon Web Services, Heroku and Zoho, and their suitability for small to medium sized enterprises.

In the comparison part of this thesis, the features and prices of the aforementioned cloud platforms are compared with one another. The results address the suitability, purpose and pricing of each cloud platform. These results may help entrepreneurs with choosing a suitable cloud platform to suit their needs.

This thesis is written mainly to be based on source material. Finnish and English books and articles are used as sources of references.
