Omaa ääntä etsimässä : Tutkimus ammattilaulajien lauluäänen kehityksestä

Abstract

Opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin, millaisia kokemuksia ammattilaulajilla on ollut oman artistisen identiteettinsä löytämisessä. Tutkimuksen pääpaino oli lauluäänessä ja sen kehityksessä harrastuksen tai opintojen aloituksesta tähän päivään. Raportin alkuosassa käsitellään laulamisen teknisiä perusteita, edetään tulkinnan ja emootion osuuteen laulamisessa ja avataan identiteetin merkitystä laulajalle.

Tutkimuskohteena olivat viisi ammattilaulajaa, joita haastattelemalla pyrittiin selvittämään, onko artistisen identiteetin löytymisen suhteen olemassa tiettyjä yhteneväisyyksiä. Anonyymiteettinsä säilyttäneiltä laulajilta kysyttiin yhdeksän kysymystä puoli-strukturoidun teemahaastattelun muodossa.

Tuloksista kävi ilmi, että kaikki viisi laulajaa painottavat emotionaalisuutta ja tulkintaa tekniikan sijaan. Jokainen heistä oli myös joutunut hyväksymään jonkin aspektin itsessään, johon he eivät olleet alunperin tyytyväisiä. Tärkeäksi osoittautui, että laulaja kuuntelee omaa sisäistä ääntään ja tekee niitä asioita, jotka tuntuvat oikeilta itse kullekin, ja tätä kautta oma artistinen identiteetti on mahdollista löytää.

This thesis aimed to investigate what professional singers have experienced in the search for their own artistic identity. The emphasis of the research was on the individuals’ singing voice and its development from the beginning of a hobby or studies up until the present day. Initially, this thesis reviews the physical and technical aspects of vocal production. Subsequently it proceeds to investigate the interpretive and emotional aspects in singing and the meaning of identity to a singer.

The subjects of the research were five professional singers. Interviews were conducted to determine whether any similarities existed in how these singers’ artistic identities were developed. The singers were asked nine questions in the form of a semi-structured interview.

The results revealed that all five interviewees emphasized the emotional and interpretive aspects as being more important for them than the technical aspects. In addition, each singer had to learn accept a certain personal feature that originally, they were not satisfied with. It proved to be important that singers listen to their instincts and follow the path they perceive to be right.
