Ekomatkailuyritykset Suomessa

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön aiheena oli tutkia eko- ja luontomatkailuyrityksiä Suomessa. Työn tarkoituksena oli selvittää, millaisia ekomatkailuyrityksiä Suomesta löytyy vai ovatko yritykset enemmänkin luontomatkailuyrityksiä, joita kiinnostavat vastuullinen matkailu ja ympäristöasiat. Työssä selvitettiin myös ekomatkailun ja luontomatkailun käsitteet, sekä mitä kaikkea ne sisältävät.

Työn teoriaosaan etsittiin tietoa kirjallisuudesta sekä Internetistä. Työn tutkimusosa tehtiin laadullisena tutkimuksena ja siihen kerättiin tietoa kirjallisten haastatteluiden avulla sekä Internetistä. Haastatteluihin valittiin sopivat luontomatkailuyritykset niiden matkailupalveluiden perusteella ympäri Suomea. Mukaan pyrittiin valitsemaan monipuolisesti eri palveluita tarjoavia yrityksiä, jotta saatiin katettua luontomatkailuyritysten palvelut.

Tutkimuksen tulokset osoittivat, että yritysten profiloituminen ekomatkailuyritykseksi on todella harvinaista. Yritykset mielsivät itsensä luontomatkailuyrityksiksi, jotka noudattavat vastuullisen matkailun periaatteita ja toimivat ekologisesti työssään. Ne eivät mainosta tai esittele itseään ekomatkailuyrityksinä, vaikka siihen olisi hyvät lähtökohdat. Osa yrityksistä pystyttäisiin nimeämään ekomatkailuyrityksiksi ekomatkailun kriteerien perusteella, mutta nämä yritykset mielsivät itsensä ennemmin luontomatkailuyritykseksi.

The purpose of this thesis was to research eco tourism and nature tourism companies in Finland. The aim of this thesis was to study what kind of eco tourism companies there are in Finland or whether the companies are nature tourism companies who are interested in responsible tourism and all environment related issues. The concepts of eco tourism and nature tourism were also examined in the thesis.

The information for the theoretical part of the thesis was gathered from literature and Internet. The research part of the thesis was carried out as a qualitative research. The information was collected by interviewing different kinds of nature tourism companies all over Finland and studying their web pages. The companies were chosen by their tourism services. It was necessary to choose all sorts of tourism services to cover all kinds of nature tourism companies.

The results of the study show that it is very rare for companies to be profiled as an ecotourism company. The companies consider themselves more as nature tourism companies which are following the principles of responsible tourism and are acting ecologically in their work. The companies do not consider or promote themselves as ecotourism companies even though they have very good basis for that. Some of the companies could be named as eco tourism companies by the criteria of eco tourism but the companies considered themselves more as nature tourism companies.
