Yritysarkkitehtuurin merkitys liiketoiminnalle ja matka nykytilasta tavoitetilaan

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli tuottaa toimeksiantaja yritykseen tietopaketti, jonka avulla on mahdollista ymmärtää yritysarkkitehtuurin perusteet ja sen tuoman merkityksen liiketoiminnalle. Tietopaketissa havainnollistetaan askeleet systemaattiseen arkkitehtuurityöhön ja mitataan kohdeorganisaation kypsyystaso, sekä tutkitaan valitun työkalun hyötyjä arkkitehtuurityössä.

Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena. Työn tavoitteet jakautuivat teoreettiseen ja empiiriseen osuuteen. Teoreettisessa osuudessa luotiin tietopaketti yritysarkkitehtuurin perusteista, jotta kohdeorganisaatio ymmärtää menetelmän sisältöä ja sen tuomaa merkitystä liiketoiminnalle. Työssä on kuvattu käytännönläheisesti askeleita kohti systemaattista yritysarkkitehtuurityötä ja havainnollistettu liitännäisyyksiä muihin kansainvälisesti tunnettuihin IT -viitekehyksiin. Teoriaosuuden lopussa on esitetty yritysarkkitehtuurin -työkalun käyttötarkoitukset ja kohderyhmä. Työn empiirisessä osuudessa hyödynnettiin Valtiovarainministeriön kehittämää yritysarkkitehtuurin kypsyystasomallia, joka perustui yleiseen kypsyystasomalliin. Mallin avulla pystyttiin tunnistamaan kohdeorganisaation nykyinen kypsyystaso, jonka mukaisesti mitattavat tavoitteet asetettiin seuraavan tason saavuttamiseksi. Lisäksi kohdeorganisaation tiedon merkitystä liiketoiminnassa tutkittiin, jotta oli mahdollista arvioida paremmin yritysarkkitehtuurin merkitystä liiketoiminnalle. Kohdeorganisaation kohdistuvia tuloksia ei julkaista julkisessa osuudessa organisaation pyynnöstä.

Työn tuloksena luodun tietopaketin avulla kohdeorganisaatio pystyy ymmärtämään yritysarkkitehtuurin merkityksen ja tiedostamaan nykyisen kypsyystasonsa, sekä askeleet seuraavan kypsyystason saavuttamiseksi. Tietopaketissa kuvattiin myös mistä systemaattinen arkkitehtuurityö kannattaa aloittaa ja miten yritysarkkitehtuurityökalu tukee toimintaa.

The aim of this thesis was to produce, for the sponsor company, an information pack-age which makes it possible to understand the basics of enterprise architecture and its importance for the business. The information package illustrates the steps for the systematic architecture work, and it measures the target organization’s level of maturity in the enterprise architecture. Furthermore, the package explores the benefits of the selected tool in the architecture work.

The approach in the study was qualitative. The study was divided in the theoretical and empirical parts. In the theoretical part, the information package was created from the basics of the enterprise architecture, so that the target organization would be able to understand the contents of the method and its value for the business. The study described the practical steps towards a systematic enterprise architecture work and illus-trated the similarities with other internationally recognized IT frameworks. At the end of the theoretical part, the use and the target groups of the enterprise architecture tool were presented.

In the empirical part, the general capability maturity model was used. It was based on the Ministry of Finance’s own model. The model helped to identify the target organization’s current level of maturity, according to which the measurable objectives were set in order to achieve the next level. In addition, the target organization’s value of in-formation for the business was studied, which made it possible to better assess the value of enterprise architecture for business. The target organization’s private results were not published in the public part of the study.

As a result of this thesis, the information package explained above was created. The target organization is able to understand the value of enterprise architecture and to be aware of the current level of maturity and of steps to achieve the next level of maturity. The information package also described where the systematic enterprise architecture work should start and how the enterprise architecture tool supports the work.
