Pohjolasta päin : Pekka Pohjolan sävellysten musiikillisten ilmiöiden tutkiminen transkriptioiden avulla

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on tutkia säveltäjä Pekka Pohjolan musiikissa toistuvia ja sille ominaisia ilmiöitä tätä opinnäytetyötä tehtyjen transkriptioiden kautta. Opinnäytetyössä käytetyt transkriboidut nuottiesimerkit on kirjoitettu Sibelius 7.5 -nuotinnusohjelmalla. Analyysin ohella opinnäytetyössä perehdytään transkriboinnin perusperiaatteisiin, prosessiin ja opetuksellisiin mahdollisuuksiin.

Tutkittavien kolmen ilmiön valintakriteereinä käytettiin pääosin toistuvuutta ja yleisyyttä säveltäjän teoksissa. Jokaisen yksittäisen ilmiön analyysin pohjana käytetään kahta eri teosta ja niistä poimittujen esimerkkien transkriptioita.

Työn toivotaan auttavan lukijoita ymmärtämään Pekka Pohjolan musiikillisia konventioita ja transkriboinnin perusperiaatteita.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the musical phenomena in the music of composer Pekka Pohjola. Transcriptions of the music are used as the base for the analysis. All of the transcriptions used in this thesis were made using the Sibelius 7.5 notation software. In addition to analyzing the music, the thesis examines the basics of transcribing, transcribing as an overall process, and what kinds of pedagogical possibilities it provides.

The selection criteria for the musical phenomena analyzed were mainly the frequency and repetition in the selected compositions. Every phenomenon is represented and analyzed through two examples of musical transcriptions selected from the composer’s repertoire.

The thesis aims to help the readers understand the conventions behind the music of Pekka Pohjola, and the fundamentals of transcribing as a process.
