Närstående till missbrukare : - en litteraturstudie om upplevelser av att vara närstående till en missbrukare

Abstract

Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka hur det upplevs att vara närstående till en substansmissbrukare. Frågeställningar som respondenterna ville ha svar på var: Vilka påfrestningar kan det medföra att vara närstående till en missbrukare? Vilka stödformer finns tillgängliga för närstående till missbrukare? Respondenterna använde sig av litteraturstudie som datainsamlingsmetod. Dataanalysmetod som användes i studien var innehållsanalys. Respondenterna använde sig av resuméartikel för att få en mer överskådlig blick över artiklarna. Teoretiska utgångspunkter som användes var Erikssons (1994) tankar om lidande och livslidande samt WHO:s (1946) definition av hälsa. I den teoretiska bakgrunden behandlades relevanta begrepp och bakgrundsfakta som kan öka läsarens förståelse för ämnet. Dessa begrepp var missbruk, medberoende, närstående och intervention. I den teoretiska bakgrunden behandlades även olika stödföreningar som finns tillgängliga för närstående till missbrukare i Finland. I resultatet framkom det att närstående till missbrukare upplevde fysiska, psykiska, ekonomiska och sociala påfrestningar. Det fanns ett flertal stödformer som kunde tillämpas när man ville behandla den missbrukande och dennes närstående. I resultatet framkom också goda råd för vad en professionell inom social- och hälsovården kunde tänka på i mötet med närstående till missbrukare.

The purpose of this study was to examine how being a relative of a substance abuser is perceived. Questions that the respondents wanted answers to were: What kind of strains does being a relative of a substance abuser cause? What forms of support are available for a relative of a substance abuser? The respondents employed a literature study as a data collection method. The form of data analysis that was used in the study was content analysis. The respondents used a review article to get a clearer overview of the chosen articles. Theoretical points used were Eriksson’s (1994) thoughts about suffering and life suffering as well as WHO’s (1946) definition of health. In the theoretical background, relevant concepts and background facts were used to increase the reader’s knowledge of the current subject. These concepts were: Substance abuse, co-addiction, the relative and intervention. In the theoretical background, different forms of support groups, available for a relative of a substance abuser in Finland, were also processed. The results showed that a relative of a substance abuser experiences physical, mental, economic and social strains. There were several forms of support available for treating the abuser and the relative of the abuser and in the results of the study there is also good advice on how to behave as a professional in healthcare when you are dealing with a relative of a substance abuser.
