Itsemurha ja läheiset : sururyhmätoiminnan kehittäminen Seinäjoen seurakunnassa

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli kehittää sururyhmätoimintaa Seinäjoen seurakunnassa. Tavoitteena oli kyselyn avulla selvittää, miten toimintaan osallistuneet ovat kokeneet toiminnan ja miten sitä voitaisiin kehittää. Opinnäytetyömme kohdentuu Seinäjoen seurakuntaan, mutta sitä voidaan hyödyntää tarvittaessa muissakin seurakunnissa. Opinnäytetyössä hyödynnettiin niin kirjallisuutta kuin seurakunnalta saatuja tietoja sekä tekemäämme kyselytutkimusta. Tekstissä tuomme ilmi sururyhmään osallistuneiden vastauksia avoimiin kysymyksiin.

Aineistoa työhön kerättiin kyselyjen muodossa pääosin syksyllä 2020. Kyselyn lisäksi toteutimme Töölön seurakunnan työntekijän haastattelun, jotta saisimme monipuolisempaa tietoa seurakuntien sururyhmätoiminnasta. Henkilöhaastattelu Töölön seurakunnassa toteutettiin lokakuussa 2020, kyselylomakkein toteutettu aineistonkeruu marraskuussa 2020.

Seinäjoen seurakunnassa on toteutunut itsemurhan kautta läheisensä menettäneiden sururyhmä jo yli kahdenkymmenen vuoden ajan. Ryhmä on kohdennettu suoraan itsemurhan tehneiden läheisille, koska silloin surutyö on eriluontoista kuin muissa menettämisen surutöissä. Kyselyssä tiedustelimme osallistuneilta, miten he kokivat ryhmän toiminnan sekä mitä kehitettävää toiminnassa olisi. Nämä tulokset toimitettiin opinnäytetyön muodossa seurakunnalle, jolloin seurakunta voi itsenäisesti kehittää toimintaansa.

Tutkimuksen perusteella sururyhmäryhmätoiminta on ollut hyvin suunniteltua ja monipuolista toimintaa. Vastaajat kokivat, että ryhmässä on vallinnut aina luottamuksen ja turvallisuuden ilmapiiri, jolloin asioista kertominen ja avautuminen on ollut helpompaa. Myös surusta ja kokemuksesta kertominen sellaisille ihmisille, jotka ovat kokeneet saman, koettiin helpottavaksi tekijäksi. Tästä syystä itsemurhalle läheisensä menettäneiden omat sururyhmät ovat äärettömän tärkeitä. Vastauksista huokui, että jokainen osallistuja koki ryhmätoiminnan omalle surutyölleen tärkeäksi. Seurakunnan tulee pohtia, miten toteuttavat toimintaansa niin, että jokainen kokee olevansa sinne tervetullut ja miten toiminnasta voitaisiin viestiä enemmän ihmisille ja asian kokeville. Muutoksia toivottaisiin siihen, että olisi sururyhmä erikseen niille, joiden lapset ovat tehneet itsemurhan.

The purpose of the thesis was to develop grief group activities in Seinäjoki parish. The aim of the survey was to find out how the participants experienced the activity and how it could be developed. Our thesis is aimed directly at the Seinäjoki parish, but it can also be utilized in other parishes if necessary. The thesis utilized both literature and the information received from the parish, as well as the information collected with the questionnaires. In the text, we present the answers of customers to open questions.

The material for the work was collected in questionnaires, mainly in the autumn of 2020. In addition to the survey, we conducted an interview with an employee of the Töölö parish to obtain more diverse information about the parish's mourning group activities. A personal interview in Töölö parish was conducted in October 2020, and data collection was conducted in November 2020 with questionnaires.

Seinäjoki parish has had a grief group for those who lost loved ones to suicide for over twenty years. The group is targeted directly at those who have lost loved ones to suicide, because then the grief work is different compared to other grief work on losing. In the questionnaire, we asked the participants how they felt about the group's activities and what could be improved in the group. These results were submitted in the form of a thesis to the parish, allowing them to develop their activities independently.

Based on the study, mourning group activities have been well-planned and diverse activities. Respondents felt that there was always an atmosphere of trust and security in the group, which made it easier to communicate and open things up. Telling about grief and experience to people who have experienced the same was also seen as a facilitator. For this reason, grief groups of those who have lost loved ones to suicide are extremely important. The responses revealed that each participant felt that group activities were important for their own grief work. The church should consider how to carry out its activities so that everyone feels welcome and how the activities could be communicated more to people and those who experience it. There was a desire to have a mourning group separately for those who have lost their children to suicide.
