KUMMIUS KASVATUKSEN TUKENA : EILISPÄIVÄN VELVOITTEESTA TÄMÄN PÄIVÄN HIENOKSI HAASTEEKSI

Abstract

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvittää kummina olemisen merkitystä sekä sen kokemista, Korson seurakunnan perhekerhoihin osallistuvilta vanhemmilta sekä Mannerheimin Lastensuojeluliiton Korson yhdistyksen isä-lapsi-kerhon isiltä. Korson seurakunnan lapsi- ja perhetyö halusi työnsä kehittämiseksi selvittää, mitä ja millaista tukea kummit olisivat kaivanneet tai kaipaavat kummina olemiseen, on se sitten näkyvää toimintaa tai ennemminkin esimerkiksi hengellistä tukea.

Tutkimus on kvantitatiivinen eli määrällinen. Aineistonkoonnin menetelmänä käytettiin kyselylomaketta. Aineisto kerättiin Korson seurakunnan perhekerhojen vanhemmilta sekä Mannerheimin Lastensuojeluliiton Korson yhdistyksen isä-lapsi-kerhon isiltä keväällä 2012.

Tutkimus osoittaa, että osaksi lapsen elämää halutaan läheinen, luotettava ja turvallinen aikuinen, mutta hengellisyyttä ei koeta oleellisemmaksi osaksi kummisuhdetta. Kummin ja kummilapsen yhteistä aikaa sekä ystävyyttä pidettiin tärkeimpänä asiana kummisuhteessa. Tutkimus myös osoittaa, ettei kummius ole yhdentekevää, vaan se on useimmiten suuri kunniatehtävä, joka tuottaa onnea ja iloa. Halukkuutta oli yhden päivän kestäviä kummisuhdetta tukevia toimintoja kohtaan, mistä retki- ja toimintapäivä olivat suosituimmat. Kummeille tarkoitettu kummiutta tukeva kirjallinen materiaali osoittautui jollainlailla tarpeelliseksi.

The aim of the study was to clarify the importance of being a godparent and how it is regionally experienced in Korso, Vantaa. The study was focused on the parents attending the parish family club in Korso and the fathers attending the father-child club on Korso’s local association of the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare. The child and family work in the Korso parish wanted in order to develop their work, to find out what kind of support the godparents would have needed or would need in the future, whether it would be physical activities or more of religious support.

The study is quantitative. The data collection method has been a questionnaire and all the data was gathered from the parents attending the parish family club and from the fathers attending the father-child club over the spring of 2012.

The study concludes that a close, trustful and safe adult is what every parent would wish for their child to have. On the other hand, the spiritual aspect is not considered to have an important part in being a godparent. The friendship and time spent together by the godparent and godchild were considered to be the most important aspects of a good godparent-godchild relationship. The study also indicated that being a godparent is not insignificant but is mostly consid-ered as a great task of honour which will produce joy and happiness. Willing-ness for shorter activities lasting up to one day to improve the relationship be-tween the godparent and godchild was evident. Out of all the choices, trips and activity days were the most popular. Literature meant for the godparents to sup-port them in the task was also proven to be necessary to some extent.
