Tiivistelmä
In recent years, the price point for both photovoltaic module and battery storage capacity has decreased dramatically and encouraged uptake by both utility and domestic scale users. Novia University of Applied Sciences commissioned this project to develop a renewable energy system capable of collecting data automatically as an educational tool. For this proposal for developing a LabVIEW program and design an intuitive interface for students to control the system will be required. Moreover, ensuring its proper functioning will be essential.

Literature research was undertaken to obtain background information on all components of the system - especially photovoltaic panels and batteries. Subsequent simulation tasks were carried out to understand how the Modbus TCP communication works to start programming with LabVIEW. Once the software was developed, the focus was on the interface, the information it should contain and how to adapt it for an intuitive design. To validate the proper functioning of the system, final tests were performed on the solar panels and the battery.

Possible component alternatives have been assessed throughout the thesis and concluded that they were not feasible at the scale of this project. In conclusion, all the system proved successful, no anomalies were observed, and it will be able to be incorporated as an educational tool for further projects.
